初次聽到這首歌，大約是在七、八年前，馬世芳的披頭四講座上。 西塔琴纏縛繾綣的前奏，如情人潮溼舌尖在體膚上舐行，露珠滑過臘質葉片的輕盈無痕。 在那樣的年紀，腦海裡繚繞的只有這兩句：Make love all day long/ Make love singing songs，永恆的熱帶金黃下午，將睡未睡的矇昧光陰。雙手掐著頸脖，在缺氧的人工快感中，撒腿狂奔至青春終點。 再度於youtube聽見，George Harrison已死，憂傷囚徒踝上繫著金鍊，齊齊吟唱：A lifetime is so short/ A new one can't be bought/ But what you've got means such a lot to me。
有人解讀歌名隱含的喻意是love you to death，但在股票、保險、帳單、高麗菜間，我們已無暇追問死亡，只能反覆播放輓歌，在瘋狂或病變之前。
