Touch of Gray / Grateful Dead / In the Dark / 1987

Grateful Dead 是70年代橫跨到80年代的一個傳奇樂團。1987年的 In the dark 是他們第12張錄音室專輯，但直到這一張，才有這一首歌擠進當時完全是宰制天下的 Billboard 銷售神殿。這也是他們唯一一張有拍 MV 播放的專輯。據說，因為這些事情，他們在日後的演唱會上，非常非常不喜歡唱這首歌...

在1987年以前，Grateful Dead 是個出道之後默默無聞的小團嗎？恰恰相反。他們早在70年代就已經是搖滾樂壇上的傳奇天團了。而且也決不是叫好不叫座；他們以不斷的巡迴表演著名，擁有一大票死忠的樂迷。到後來，這群 fans 還自然而然的有了一個名字叫作 "Deadheads"。這 Deadhead 儼然已經變成一個專有名詞，危機百科上竟然有這麼大一篇在講一個樂團的樂迷群體... 怕了吧？至少我可是欽慕到口水流滿地啊。

The Grateful Dead 有一個靈魂人物叫 Jerry Garcia ，他是吉他手。在MV裏你看到一個頭髮班白，戴個眼鏡，體型活像是肯德基爺爺的那個，就是他了。但這首歌的歌詞是 Robert Hunter 寫的。他是Grateful Dead 許多歌的撰詞者。他不玩樂器，也不唱歌，但是他被正式列為Grateful Dead 的團員之ㄧ；後來當Grateful Dead 被列入搖滾名人堂的時候，Robert Hunter 的大名也理直氣壯的在裡面。

Robert Hunter 是 Jerry Garcia 的老朋友，幾十年的老朋友。
1987年，Jerry Garcia 45歲。危機百科說這首歌在1982年就在演唱會的安可曲中上出現過，所以，如果這是真的，那麼曲子寫成的時間，那年他40歲。


姑且不論商業、主流云云，先放到一邊。危機百科上說 Robert Hunter 說：這首歌一開始其實是 Jerry Garcia 信手寫的一個小句子，就是那句：" Light a Candle / Curse the glaze" 。

這是一個搖滾中年，寫給他的搖滾中年老朋友的歌吧...


燃燒殆盡的過程是美麗的，better to burn out；我到現在還是這樣認為。但是，看著他一路這樣燒下去：媽的，幹，喂，燒慢一點行不行啊！(喂，不要否認了，你也想這樣罵，對吧？)

喔。不過，我想...
也還好啦。
