這個標題為 Rockstar at SC 2003 的影片，是紀錄在 Supercomputing 2003 Conference 的時候，昇陽公司在現場運用不到兩個小時，把 128 + 1 台電腦從空機開始架設、安裝到好的過程。



這個名為 Rockstar 的 cluster ，當年(2003/11)在 top500.org 這個超級電腦的「天梯」網站，排名第 201 名，半年後還排得上 413 名（排名在此）。

用的硬體是 SUN Fire ，處理器是 Intel IA-32 Pentium 4 Xeon ，作業系統是 Red Hat Linux ，安裝和管理則是用上了 Rocks Clusters 這個自由軟體囉。 ...繼續閱讀

嗯， Red Hat 宣布，把 RHN Satellite 的程式碼以 GPLv2 釋出，並且成立 Spacewalk 專案來統整所有相關事宜。從今以後， Spacewalk 專案將成為 RHN Satellite 的上游專案。

以前我在 愛恨紅帽-03：躺著管理Linux。錢夠多的話。 介紹過 RHN 以及它的 Satellite （衛星）模式。簡單的說，付錢給 Red Hat ，妳就可以在妳的企業網路裡面打造一台衛星伺服器(RHN Satellite)，這台伺服器只需要跟真正的RHN(Red Hat Network)下載更新套件，即可提供套件更新給內部網路裡面所有Red Hat機器。

現在有了 Spacewalk 專案，妳可以用來打造自己的衛星，在妳的內部網路裡面管理各種紅帽系的機器。注意喔，是紅帽系，所以除了 Red Hat Enterprise Linux ，還包過 Fedora ，甚至包括 CentOS 和 Scientific Linux 呢！！

應該有很多朋友知道，用 FTP 下載檔案的時候，可以設定「保留下載檔案的日期 / 時間」。例如如果妳用的 FTP client 是 FileZilla 這個跨平台的自由軟體（以 2.2.32 版為例）：

編輯 > 設定 > 檔案傳輸設定 > 保留下載檔案的日期 / 時間
Edit > Settings > File transfer settings > Preserve date/time of downloaded files

設定是很簡單，其他的 FTP client 軟體也都有這個設定，一般人知道怎麼設定（自己用的 FTP 軟體）也就夠了。

目前的想法，是把跟 自由軟體 / 開放原始碼軟體 有關的部份貼過去（對，會包括 podcast）。

嗯，慶祝 中華洋基隊（有錯字嗎？）王牌投手王建民拿下本季第七勝，為了不讓建仔的勝投數超過本人 podcast 的集數（什麼鬼理由？），本人將努力把 podcast 第八集生出來，科科科科......

（警語：本人沒有 PTT 帳號，此文所舉的例子，實際發生的時間是十幾年前我還在念大學的時代，對象應該是台大椰林風情BBS或是台大電機BBS。強烈不建議大家惡搞，文中將另舉本人應用於工作上的例子）

不記得當年是怎麼知道 expect 的了，總之它是一個建構在 Tcl 之上的工具，非常適合把「交談式」的指令給全自動化。

（所謂的交談式，就好比妳用 telnet, ssh, ftp 連上機器之後下一堆指令。）

這個東東最基本的就是兩招： expect 跟 send 。（喔，要生出 process 還要會 spawn 啦）
我們人腦會告訴雙手：如果看到「請輸入帳號」就打 "AustinPowers" ，看到「請輸入密碼」就打 "Yeah,baby,yeah!"
那麼在 expect 的語法，就變成兩組的 expect 跟 send ；頭一次 expect 「請輸入帳號」send AustinPowers[enter]，再來 expect 「請輸入密碼」send Yeah,baby,yeah![enter]

當時靈機一動，想說：那我不就可以從我在宿舍的 Linux ，用 expect 寫個自動登入學校的 BBS ，輸入帳號，輸入密碼，然後登出的 script 來玩玩？

看到有人貼一個 YouTube 影片，是今年四月一場 Google Tech Talks ，講題是 jQuery。

重點是，講者 Dmitri Gaskin 目前只有 12 歲！！



那個影片我也沒看完（ jQuery 是什麼，可以吃嗎？ :p ），也的確，他的台風還可以更穩，但是但是，不要忘記 Dmitri Gaskin 這個小強人只有十二歲啊啊啊～～～

（誰！誰說我酸的？我敬稱他小強人，哪裡有酸了？哪裡？）

出於好奇，搜尋一下他的老爸是誰，找到這篇 Help getting Dmitri to the Boston DrupalCon ，最底下提到（粗體為筆者所加）：

不過，搜來搜去，這個 Igor 怎麼叫做 Igor Gasowski 呢？父子的 last name 怎麼不一樣呢？可是 After Dark 團隊應該只有這一個 Igor 啊？我知道有些人移民/移居的時候，會把他們的姓名拼法變動，是不是這個原因呢？

* Rajiv works in telecoms industry, worked with Tata Consultancy Services and Lucent Technologies India; he has been running a startup (Sedna Wireless) for two years.
* Call Graph brings me to know Rajiv. This Skype recorder software seems to be the only one that is totally free (as in free beer). Finally, I can record Skype calls into stereo (separate audio tracks for each side) without paying money :p
* Call Graph was released about two months ago, already mentioned by several popular blogs (1) (2) (3), but still not widely known yet.

* ThinFone, a VoIP thin client system that could talk all kinds of protocols.

* Currently Sedna Wireless hasn't release any source code in FS/OSS licenses, however Rajiv is a big fan of open source.
* Open source brings down the entry barrier of enterprise software.
* Austin is also in the telecoms industry (worked for Agilent Taiwan for almost seven years), so we talked about OSS adoption in telcos.
* Rajiv said there're lots of OSS activities in Bangalore, but not in telecoms yet.
* On the bright side, VxWorks by Wind River is the most popular embedded OS, but even Wind River has linux now, and it's marketed as a more robust platform than their long time flagship.
* MontaVista Linux, CELinux
* Adoption takes time in an industry with so many legacy systems.
* Motorola Ming and that whole cell phone series uses MontaVista Linux. EZX and OpenEZX
* Call Graph will have a linux port, should be available next month (June)
* Rajiv is considering open source Call Graph, referring to advantages such as help from community on porting, testing, etc.
* Austin argued that Call Graph falls into the same category of shrinkwrap software, which means that very little service is needed. How would it be possible to make money if they open source it?
* The monetize strategy is on the server side; Sedna Wireless is building an Integrated Call Record Management solution around Call Graph: a web service where you can see all your calls records at one place and search through them, play them back, share them with others, order transcripts etc. Rajiv is planning to launch the private beta of the service shortly.
* Austin asked if this service is English only.
* This web service uses Amazon S3 as the web hosting service.
* Rajiv use an open source speech-to-text engine to generate transcripts, then there will be real people to proofread it. To keep the content confidential, each audio will be scrambled and cut into sentences, then dispatch to three or four people to do the proofread.
* Austin suggested that podcasts under creative commons license could be uploaded to this web service, transcribed and indexed, so that it would be easier to search the context of those podcasts. (Currently this web service only accept it's own client to record - via Skype - then upload, so a dummy Skype call to playback those podcasts is needed, which is not very intuitive)
* This podcast is recorded using Call Graph, but Austin has to do the show notes by himself. Hopefully the web service will be available soon, so that Austin could pay a bit money to get the whole transcript of the conversation :)

[Update: 2008/5/29 I guess due to this podcast interview, I got to know Rajiv and his company, so I was invited to participate in the private beta of the Call Graph Call Record Indexing and Management Service (CRIMS). I have just registered that service, so consider this as my disclosure :)]

其實解法並不難，我搜尋了一下 tar "filename is greater than 100"，其中一篇提到 /usr/sfw/bin/gtar 可以處理超過 100 個字元的檔名（叫做 gtar 喔，多了一個 g 來做區隔，一些其他的工具也是這樣，例如 ggrep），我才因此發現，原來 Solaris 9 把一些 GNU 工具放在 /usr/sfw/bin/ 底下，以前都笨笨的去看一下 /usr/local/bin/ ，沒有就認命的使用 SUN 給的 /usr/bin/tar Orz......

另外一篇Solaris paths - or - where the &$@% is all the software?則是提到了 Solaris 10 裡面一些 GNU 工具的位置（Solaris 9 看來也一樣？），以及安裝檔案放在哪片安裝光碟上。

另外一篇就更有意思了，All tar files are not created equal，告訴妳使用 SUN tar 跟 GNU tar 在某些情形下是不相容的（！）

突然覺得，其實我骨子裡還是披著羊皮的狼假裝會管理UNIX的 Linux admin 。怎麼說呢？

後記：這一集真的非常閒聊，所以回頭要下標題的時候，還真的想了一會。

我在訪問中提了幾次，這麼多年， pofeng 雖然沒有站出來帶頭衝，但是也沒有 burn out ，他一直都在或多或少的參加社群活動。於是跟他開玩笑說，我們都是 daemon, background process。

這就讓我想到 《倚天屠龍記》裡《九陽真經》原文：

他強由他強，清風拂山崗；
他橫由他橫，明月照大江。
他自狠來他自惡，我自一口真氣足。

原本想要下個「我自一口真氣足：pofeng 的自由軟體悠遊記」這樣的標題，但是柏鋒又謙稱自己是「能飛不能過屋，能緣不能窮木，能游不能渡谷，能穴不能掩身，能走不能先人」， 五技而窮的鼯鼠。

那就引用他的 blog 的這句話結尾吧：

我從來沒有放棄, 要成為一個偉大宅男的夢想 *握拳*

沒錯，這又是另一個運用（已經以 GPL 釋出的） Quake III Arena 遊戲引擎 製作的跨平台「遊戲」。

沒錯，它的研發，CISCO的的確確贊助了部份的經費。

別忙，別因為看到那個可笑的畫面就忙著轉台，這其實不是一個「遊戲」。

這其實是一個網管系統。

我沒瘋，妳也沒傻，這真的是一個運用了遊戲引擎的網管系統。上面那張圖原本的圖說是這一句：Another Administrator marking a greynet host to have an ACL Placed.

有點味道出來了吧？一個網管人員，幫某台機器加上 access control list 的設定耶。
