When I finished the Scarlet Letter, I recalled Damien’s song’Crime’.The pastor fell in love with the married woman, who had their baby . He had no courage to recognize his sin. The woman’s husband discovered his secret, and punished him in a evil way.But the poor man got nothing except hatred. At the very end, Reverend decided not to run away from his sin. He tore off his garment and revealed the letter A(adultry) bured on his soul, which had tortured him for seven years.When he committed his crime,he was released from the sin and recognized by her daughter.
看完了「紅字」一書，看到所有的人都被折磨，不論是有罪的，或是自以為可以行使正義的。書中給了強烈矛盾的形象，有罪的是坦蕩的，神聖的是有罪且膽怯，正義之人因仇恨變成了惡魔的化身。不論時代或是書中的宗教背景，我想我們都不是上帝，雖然我也恨背叛，但我們都無權折磨他人。〈這或許也是釋放自己最好的方法！〉
