Dear Sir or Madam

On 14^th March 2005, the “anti-secession” law was adopted at the Chinese National People’s Congress. Article 8 reveals China's ambition to laucch a military invasion of Taiwan. While any military means against Taiwan will significantly impact on peace and stability of the whole region and world, it is in the international community’s interests to both urge China to abolish the anti-secession law and keep the arms embargo against it.   

The people of Taiwan uphold democracy and peace. We are determined and duty-bound to join the international community in safeguarding democratic systems, peace in the Taiwan Strait. For a long time, China has been deploying ever more missiles targeting Taiwan especially its recent enactment of a non-peaceful law. The international community must indicate clearly to the Chinese government that any law that expressly stipulates the use of violence to infringe the basic rights and interests of others, no matter for what reason or under what pretense, is tantamount to the denigration of the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights. Therefore, the Chinese authorities should abolish the anti-secession law once and for all.  

In accordance with Article 2 (2) of the UN Charter – calling on countries “[t]o develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples,” only the people of Taiwan can make decisions about Taiwan's free, democratic, and peaceful future and only the 23 million people of Taiwan may decide to change the future of Taiwan.
