Dear Sir or Madam

I have been a customer of Barclays Bank for more than 5 years. I have always been pleased with the services provided by the Bank until I saw the following shocking information, “Taiwan, Province of China,” on your on-line banking website (Please refer to http://ibank.internationalbanking.barclays.com/logon/icebapplication)  the other day.

The wording, “Taiwan, Province of China,” on the website states that my motherland, Taiwan, is a province of China. Apparently, Barclays has a mistaken understanding of Taiwan’s status. It is a serious mistake and an unbearable insult for the people of Taiwan.  

If a staff member of Barclays needed to visit Taiwan, for example, he or she could not apply for a visa at the Chinese embassy. This is a reality, which Taiwan and China are governed separately as two distinct sovereign countries cannot be ignored. I believe the error is due to a misunderstanding of Taiwan’s statehood. It would be greatly appreciated, if Barclays Bank would amend at once its website, from “Taiwan, Province of China” to “Taiwan.”
