Pete Seeger said

People have tried to explain in words what the power of music is – and usually failed. All we know is that sometimes, a short song, taking just a few minutes, can have as much impression on a listener as sometimes a whole novel can…. You can bounce the experiences of your life against it, and it bounces back new meanings.

(摘錄自American Music Is by Nat Hentoff, 第六頁 Billie Holiday: The Ghosts of “ Strange Fruit.” 本句乃本書作者另外由Joel Katz的紀錄片Congressional Record所節錄

Not exactly the same thing, but I've heard Jeff Tweedy said something similar in an interview that the musicians are only responsible for constructing half of the song, and the listeners are responsible for the other half.

Music notes are just that. I always think that when you say "This music is so moving", you are actually saying "The feeling invoked in me by this music is so moving"

It's all in our heads, damn it.

Evoke, not invoke, damn it.

to 藕萝芭,
有時候去看看這些前輩說過的話,其實也別有一番興味,可不是嗎?

to yando,
Sometimes the composers and the listeners will have different kind of view on hearing the song or composition. The purpose I tried to note down the words they said is because I want and try to feel some different meaning from others' points of view. To evoke something from myself!

invoke/envoke does not matter, right!?

往回看之餘別忘了沉甸自己,讓自己的感覺可以完整的表達出來~~~
