The wife in the play ends by having no idea what is right and what is wrong: natural feelings on the one hand and belief in authority on the other lead her to utter distraction.

A woman cannot he herself in modern society. It is an exclusively male society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess feminine conduct from a masculine standpoint"

        在開始看《A Doll’s House》之前，我以為又是一部像《The Yellow Wall Paper》一般的女人被壓榨到瘋掉的故事。隨著劇情的演變，我看不到女主角Nora將被關起來的跡象，才知道她早就是被關在那房間的洋娃娃，經歷一些事情後，決定出走找尋真的自己，並了解何謂真理。

        《A Doll’s House》是挪威知名劇作家「現代戲劇之父」Henrik Ibsen（1828-1906）在1879年所寫的寫實主義的作品。女主角Nora看似一個涉世未深、整天無憂無慮被丈夫稱做「小鳥兒」、「小松鼠」的妻子，在幾個意外的訪客中，道出了之前為了丈夫的重病醫療費用又不忍煩擾垂危的父親之下，偽造了父親的簽名跟銀行借了一筆鉅款。一連串的威脅下她一心打算自殺或等待「奇跡」出現，而這個「奇跡」（她期待她丈夫會站在他這方給予支持並共同面對困難）並未出現，當她丈夫得知後一古腦兒說出令人不堪的氣話。她終於意識到她始終不過是個被人操控的洋娃娃，小時是乖乖聽父親話的娃娃，婚後是一切聽從丈夫安排的娃娃。她決定離家找尋自己，整齣劇就在她離家關門的「碰」聲，留下「？」的結束。

        這是這學期我修「西洋戲劇」的第一部require reading。若問我喜不喜歡這作品，我只能說我真的讀女性主義的作品讀到沒感覺了。我不反對女性主義，但我始終覺得女性主義本身就是一種約束。而直到現在這個社會，男女始終沒有平等過，而有些東西似乎是天生的，就像Nora的丈夫Helmer的「Nobody sacrifices his honor for his love.」及Nora的「A hundred thousand women have done so.」。

        但我對劇中，許多人對Nora說「You don’t understand what the society is.」感觸很深。何謂「了解社會」？那些自稱了解社會的人所了解是真的社會嗎？是該存在的那種社會嗎？社會怎麼做就是真的該如此做嗎？

BTW，那個Krogstad的改邪規正還真的突然的令我傻眼…
