我愛(慾望)街車


美國上個世紀初,一直到50年代為止, 幾乎每個大小城市鄉鎮都有電車. 我愛電車, 我愛屬於那個逝去的,工業時期的一切東西 --- 摩天大樓, 大機械, 爵士年代, 科幻小說, ... 以及無所不在的街車. 我覺得街車不僅是一個通勤方式, 更是一個城鎮文化,景觀的一部分. 我更覺得那是explore一個地方的最好方法.

雖然公共汽車在通勤的功能取代了電車, 我覺得在觀光的功能方面公共汽車是無法跟街車比的. 現在全美各地又有許多地方開始興建街車的計畫, 且讓我們拭目以待.

The street cars look much cuter than modern buses...
For some reason, things back then were much good-looking,delicate and refined, buildings, outfits, and so on.

Believe it or not, people at that time took trolley from New York City or Philadelphia, with lots of transfers. It's cheater doing this way than taking trains.

Initially, a trolley was served with an operator and a ticket attendant. Later because of competition, ticket attendants were removed (as Tainwan did 20 years ago) and they had to modify the trolley so that the operator could do the ticketing.

To further save cost, they produced "single-truck" trolley (a single axis/suspension system) and the car bumped very bad. Finally, trolley was driven out of market.

Take your kids to a trolley museum and take a ride. It will be a unique experience.
