從前，Auotdesk的唯一熱門產品3Ds Max是他們的命脈，3Ds Max總是拼了命的在與MAYA、Softimage爭奪3D軟體的市場，後來，不知道某一天(其實就在幾年前)，Autodesk突然宣佈併購MAYA，於是乎許多的使用者開始在揣測許多的可能，包括了廢除陰謀論，而Autodesk這幾年也很辛苦的在為旗下的許多產品找定位，尤其是3D軟體這一塊，這點不難從3Ds Max 2009的版本一分為二看出端倪，以前的三國鼎立(3Ds Max, MAYA and Softimage)的盛況現在已經完全不在了，因為Autodesk在2008年10月23日已經又併購了Softimage, XSI，這就像三國的曹操完成了一統中國的使命，從今爾後，Autodesk只有更專注於產品的重新定位。

在3Ds Max對於CAT這套動畫系統的使用者有福了，因為Autodesk承諾將來會將CAT這套系統加入到3Ds Max的功能之中，以後就不需要再額外外掛了。目前一般的軟體市場預估者，包括我自己都是這樣認為，假設要「從事電影影視工業建議學習MAYA」，而「從事建築室內設計者則是建議學習3Ds Max」，當然，許多的遊戲設計者也使用3Ds Max，但是，再將來，這塊市場極為可能會歸類於Softimage的產品定位，因此3Ds Max 2009版的分割行為，應該不會持續太久，等待Sofoimage的重新定位即可。

Gary Greenfield, CEO and chairman of Avid Technology, added: "We are excited about what this transaction means for customers of Softimage. The Softimage 3D product line has performed well in the
video games market, a sector where Autodesk has a track record of success. Autodesk will provide a great home for the business."

目前這樁3500萬美金的合併案還在協商當中，預計將在2008年的11月正式落幕。

On October 23, 2008, Autodesk, Inc. and Avid Technology, Inc. announced that they have signed a definitive agreement for Autodesk to acquire substantially all of the assets of Avid's Softimage business unit for approximately $35 million. Autodesk anticipates that the transaction will close in November 2008.


Softimage Product Integration (Softimage產品整合)

Upon completion of the acquisition, Autodesk intends to continue developing and selling Softimage's core product line, while integrating certain Softimage technology into future versions of Autodesk solutions and products. Autodesk plans to acquire and continue developing the following Softimage products:

包含XSI Essentials, XSI Advanced, XSI Academic, XSI Mod Tool and the XSI software的發展工具包，XSI被規劃應用於遊戲、電影與電視的3D動畫，並且提供完整的3D建模、動畫、渲染與發展環境的視覺特效與自定工具。

SOFTIMAGE|Face Robot: A complete software solution for easily rigging and animating 3D faces. Face Robot enables studios to create life-like facial animation at incredible speeds.

臉部機器人工具：一個完整的軟體解決方案在於更簡單的創造出3D的臉孔與動畫應用。這套系統所創造出的動畫，其生動表情與產生速度都會讓您驚艷。

SOFTIMAGE|Cat: This advanced character animation system is a plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max software. It is intended to be integrated into the 3ds Max product line.

CAT動畫角色系統：這是一套進階的角色動畫系統，並且外掛於3Ds Max之中。並且將來將會置入於3Ds Max的產品線之中。

SOFTIMAGE|Crosswalk: This interoperability solution is intended to be integrated with Autodesk's own interoperability technology.

Crosswalk互動式介面系統：這套操作介面的運作方式，將來會被應用於Autodesk的互動系統之中。
