NUJ：It's midnight and BBC staff walk out across the UK.
At the BBC World Service 80 pickets from the Albanian, Greek, Hungarian, Chinese, Arab, South Asian, Hindi, Urdu, Turkish and other services pin homemade banners to the railings outside Bush House in Central London.

A cheer goes up when news comes through from TV Centre that News 24 is off air - the first victory for strikers. The ‘live’ news station is playing pre-recorded material after a futile attempt to keep the station going. General Secretary Jeremy Dear addresses pickets at the World Service and calls on the BBC to "understand and respond to the anger and concern at job cuts which will undermine quality, threaten the working conditions of staff and devalue the BBC for viewers and listeners".
