It's very cold here, as the -19°C picture I'm showing above witch I took last week. This weekend, the temperature is still around -3°C~ -15°C. However, weirdly, the snow is just a little bit...and I think the chance to see a lot of crazy snow this winter is getting less. Give me snow !
.
Ha...One article a semester? I am very busy...but I think I am very lazy as well. It's no excuse = =

The photo above is the house where I am living. It's pretty isn't it? It's a house right next to the campus, and it means I don't have to walk for a long distance to class in the coming cold winter, which nobody wants to stay outside. I'm so sorry that I haven't updated my bolg for months. It's my first semester and I am taking 15 credits from 5 courses, which are 2 paintings, 1 drawing, 1 sculpture and 1 art history. Everything is doing ok, even though I am having some difficulty on art history because I read slowly while the professor teaches two chapters a week...... I wish I can spend more time recording my life and opinions on this blog, and I feel like to read something more besides text book as well . However, you know, there is still a lot of art-historical reading waiting for me. Sigh, I should have studied English harder... Language is always the problem.
.
How are you everyone? My brother is getting marry in December, and I will go back to Taiwan :)

landing!!!

Now, I am in an "au bon pain" in the second terminal of CKS ariport, drinking an unusual expensive coffee and waiting for the landing of my girlfriend's flight. 17:35. It was a long trip. I spent 4 and a half hours from Yuanlin to get here because I took on a local airbus when I transfered from Taipei, and it didn't go through high way but downtown of Nan Kan, which was so busy and crowded. Anyway, I am here. I can't wait to see her. The scene of our meeting has been previewed in my mind as an endless movie for houndreds times. I miss her. I miss her too much... I even couldn't sleep well especially this week....
.
Ha Ha... she is coming back~~
Shut down my laptop and go meet her~~~

my little great summer :P

I haven't come here and writen something down for weeks. I am in a vacation, ok? I don't want to stay in front of my laptop and keep typing anything looks pale as I usually do. What I have been doing in these days are learning how to cook from my mom, watching soccer games with cold beers, and dating with my lovely girl friend every weekend. My ESL grades of last semester is available online, and I checked them a couple of days ago. I got two A on "Reading and Writing", two A- on "Listening and Speaking", and a B+ which is from my annoying and boring grammar class. Anyway~grammar. You know. Every body hates grammar including me.
.
My life is good in Taiwan, however the temperature is so hot right now. And I can't believe the air conditioner of my house doesn't work at all. Can you fall asleep in a 34 degrees Celsius humid summer night without air conditioning? Gosh!
.
My girl friend and I are going to have a 9-day-long motorbiking and camping trip a few days later, through the scenic east coast, from PingTung to Taipei, the southest to the northest. Oh~~the sunshine, the ocean, the mountains, and the little fishing villages in the way of our trip...I can't wait for them. It will be exciting!!

It will be exciting!!

rainy Sunday

It's a rainy and chilly day in spring. This afternoon, I went to see a house off campus and meet with the landlord who is going to rent a room in the house for me. That was a sweet tree-floor house, which was in a elegant style, decorated with claret wood wallboard and sharp roof, and had flowers and bush surrounding by. It is just like a house that I always dreamed about when I was a child, watching all the cartoons and reading fanciful story books. My room will be at 2nd floor. It' would be even better if I could rent the attic. Besides, the location was perfect. The house located just across the campus, and it means that I can walk to the art building within 5 minutes in the future.
.
As you've known, I am going to move out of the dorm next semester, and start my new and exciting life in fine art study again. I miss the smell of oil paint that filled classrooms, stairs and hallways. I miss the life that only thinking about what's the new work I'm gonna do next.
.
And of course before all of these, I will come back to Taiwan soon. There is a dreamily beautiful summer waiting for me.

 10pm...It's spring break already...
.
The New Paltz campus is so quiet...and there are only few international students still stay in my dorm. This building is suposed to be closed, but we asked our RD to let us stay secretly.
.
I'm going to Montreal and Quebec in following a few days.
Yes! I'm going to Canada! SEE YOU~~

two things

There are two news...
.
First, I'm going to the Armory Show in New York City tomorrow. It will be an extremely huge gallery fair which promotes new artists and famous art works to collectors and patrons. Yes, it is a business place, and I'm going to see how expansive those works are! Art can and should be a good business in certain ways. It is what we have to learn in New York and bring back to Taiwan. I'll take pictures as many as possible and show them here.
.
Second, I got the first acceptance today...Oh...finally! :)

a theater

Yesterday was a chilly day. It just snowed a little bit, but wind was so strong. I went out in this cold day with my friends to Bard College, which is a private school close to New Paltz, on another side of the Hudson River. It wasn't an interesting trip, but I didn't care...I was glad to have a chance to hang out with friends. It's always good to go somewhere, not to stay in a small room. There was a special theater on campus, designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry, who also designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain. The theater wasn't that amazing and beautiful...at least this building didn't give me a big shock when I saw it. However, I did envy this architect so much because he can materialize his crazy ideas to beautiful buildings.
.
We couldn't go inside because the theater was closed on weekend. After a short stay, we walked back to the parking lot in frozen wind.
.
I got a rejection letter from Rutgers when I checked my mail box after coming back. "It's so fast..." I thought. "But...I still have 7 schools." I was depressed, although I tried to tell myself that the result will be good. Whatever, I'll go to NYC...somehow, somewhere.

frozen earth

Last night, I went to Galleria Mall and Wal Mart in Poughkeepsie with my friends. I bought a detergent, a piece of Hershey's dark chocolate, some grapes, 5 California navel orange, and an American Eagle white track jacket. After shopping, we ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant "Dragon Buffet" there. The food was not good...but also not cheap though. I miss Dim Sum in Boston Chinatown...
.
It was about -11°C last night, and also windy. When we carried our stuff in the parking lot, I really didn't feel very good…ha... The temperature was still pretty low this morning. When I went out for my bagel and hot coffee, the earth and grass under my feet was cracking. Lately, the earth is abundant in water because snow has already melted. When the temperature turned cold again, the water in the earth became frozen and hard. I love frozen earth so much. The color is light brown and there is usually some frost on the surface. I like to walk on it, feel the little cracking under my sneakers, and also look at the beautiful shining frost under the early light.
.
It’s the beginning of my Sunday morning.

Valentine's Sleepy Day

For some reason I didn't sleep well last night. I was so sleepy today, but finally, I've done with all my class and work. Before dinner, it's time for me to sleep...ha...4:30 pm now.
.
i just came back from graduate admission office and art studio office where I submitted my last application materials. On the way to dorm, I was moved by an old couple, which was walking on chilly and windy campus. Holding each other, they walked slowly. They were both so old but looked kindly and friendly. Maybe came on campus just wanted to take a walk and look around young kids. When I passed by them in a rush as usual, the old lady smiled at me sweetly...I was surprised, but I smiled at them back also.
.
That's it! It's what I want to say today. I feel good. I feel happy :)
I love you dear J. And I wish everyone has a happy Valentine's Day.
Be ready, love is coming!!

morning

Weekend. Although snowing slightly last night, it was warm in the morning. When I went to Jazzmen's cafe to buy 2 bagels for my breakfast at 9:30, snow had started to melt. But as the forecast shown on Yahoo Weather, it might have snow accumulating 1~3 inches tomorrow.
.
The toaster in the cafe didn't work, so I had to bring my bagels back and microwave them. It was a tragedy because I didn't take the food wrap off before I threw the first one into the machine . The steam was sealed inside and the bagel became soft and extremely chewy. You know...it was so tough just like a tire. However I was too hungry that I had no choice but eat it. Now, I can clearly feel muscular pain of my cheek.
.
Life goes simply and fast here. I have a presentation on Monday, an essay outline due on Tuesday, and before 15th, I have to submit the last application to Fine Arts Program of SUNY New Paltz, the campus I am staying now. They are what I have to do this weekend.
.
I have one more bagel. It will be my teatime snack later, and I'll still microwave it. Hopefully I won't mess it up again~ Ha!

a street

I am almost done with my application work. Statement of purpose, resume, slides, and reccomendations...one by one, step by step, I am on the way to my dream. I am going to apply 8 schools. Hopefully I can get into a better one like Pratt, SVA or Hunter College. I looked at my slides in the slide folder under light. How beautiful they are! They are a part of my life…they are my best works… I am going to be a good artist. It’s what I want to do.
.
The photo above is a street in my hometown…it is not a night market seriously, but it’s close. It’s a street that always crowded, busy and full of food vendors in the night. The Chinese New Year is coming. You can see the beautiful spring couplets shops, which are shining the red light in the photo. I love New Year!
.
I have a good time this winter vacation. In these days, something miracle is happening to me. I feel so happy. Life is so interesting :P

Last weekend, I went to Thai-Ann(泰安鄉) two days with my friend. Before we came back, we went strawberry picking. It was so cold and humid on the mountain, but the strawberries were so sweet! When I came home, I put strawberries, grapes and my mother's little tomatos in a plate. Ha Ha~they were so beautiful, and of course so delicious!

the last weekend

I am not in good shape lately. I got my TOEFL(IPT) score, it was not good as I expected. There are 4 sections in the test. Each of them is 30 points, so the maximum score is 120. I got a very good grade, 28 in Listening. However, my Reading is too poor, only 10. Oh...oh… Both of my Writing and Speaking scores are 17. It’s in average though. I was frustrated, but anyway, I have to keep going, keep doing well in my application and English learning. I've improved a blt, but I need a higher score!!
.
They went a pub again last night but I didn't go out with them. I drank 3 beers, did a new painting in my room, and also watched a good movie “Ray” which is about a great Jazz musician Ray Charles…I was bored...I have two more finals next Tuesday, the day before my flight. They are easy for me...I have been studying hard the whole semester.... yeah, I did, but it's still not enough...
.
I am leaving anyway. Cheer up man!

 It's so cruel!!!
.
Ha...Everyone is going to full in love here. What a terrible situation to me! One of my best friends, a Japanese little girl is involved with a cute England boy. My conversation partner, who I usually study with in the library, studies with a Korean girl now. My roommate is also getting busy now. A cute girl, who is a DJ and loves music as my roommate does, has visited our room so frequently. I think they are definitely becoming a couple.
.
I feel so lonely…ha ha…what I can do in this boring weekend are study, do a little bit painting, and write crappy stuff on my blog…
.
I knew…it’s winter. Fortunately I’m going back to Taiwan soon. Wow…

It was snowing all night on Thirsday. When I woke up Friday morning, snow was as high as my knees. I took some stupid photos with my friends in the snow after lunch. Please click in this paragraph and see these photos. I love snow, but my roommate told me if the temperature keep low, these snow won't melt until spring, and the snow beside roads will become brown and disgusting = =

I'll come back to Taiwan on 12/22. See you soon.

Thanksgiving Day

It’s 5 days Thanksgiving vocation. Almost all American students left last night. It’s vocation that for family and a lot of food…ha…poor turkeys. The campus is so quiet as summer when I arrived New Paltz. I love it. The weather is cold now. The highest temperature is 0°C, and the lowest is -3°C, ha, it’s the coldest time in my life. I’m really looking forward to see snow. Come on…Snow…Should I do praying dancing for snow?
.
It’s a really vocation for me. I took a new TOEFL test last Friday. Yes, that’s the new one, with speaking test. Finally, I can take a rest, listen some music, do some painting and…you know, relax. The new TOFEL test was more interesting than CBT test, but the 4-hour test still exhausted me. I think I can get high grade in listening and maybe writing, but I have no idea about speaking. It was the first time for me. Reading was difficult...I think I don’t have enough vocabulary, and my speed of reading is still too slow. Hopefully I can pass the minimum required score 550…anyway, I’ll get my grade two weeks later.
.
I’ll go to Boston again from 25th to 27th with a Japanese girl and a Korean girl. It’s the third time for me to go to Boston. I like this city, but also I really want to experience how it’s felt like that traveling in winter, and in snow, just like a poor traveler :) Three of us are from different countries, speak different languages. It must have a lot of fun.
.
I did four little painting last night. I’ll show you later. I love painting. Ha…

The weather today was so good, so I brough my camera with me to after the morning class. As you can see...I took a lot photos while I was walking around the campus and walking on the street. These photos are not pretty good, I know. However this is the place that I am staying now. A little and friendly town in Hudson Valley.

Yesterday, my Japanese friend broke up with her boyfriend who is still in Japan. You know, another long distance relationship…She is a lively, optimistic and friendly girl, but she is really depressed now. Sigh...we drank a lot of beer last night...a lot!
.
The weather is cold now. In mid night, the temperature could be 0°C, and I think it might start snowing on next rainy day. The color of leaves are changing…green, yellow, orange and red. If the weather is good, we can see the hillside of Mohonk Mountain with so many colors. The scenery is impressive. In campus, squirrels and chipmunks are very busy. They can’t stop eating, collecting food and fighting. There are so many squirrels here, more than birds, I think. Besides, Canadian geese are leaving. They are flying away a group by a group. The pond on campus used to be full of hundreds of geese last few weeks. I hate that. It was so terrible because "hundreds of geese" means that there would be "thousands of shit" around the pond. Yeah~~
.
How about the pretty girl? Ha…I really like her, and, I guess…she has noticed that. Then…I think…she doesn’t LIKE me. If I tell her that I like her, she might say: Hum…A-Ting, you are a good boy, but actually, I ...…/@@/ I think everyone is familiar with this kind of conversation. Ha Ha. Anyway, who knows? Now, I am enjoying the vague relation between us (maybe…only myself = =.)
.
The mid-term-exams were finished. I got very good grades in these tests. However, my TOEFL test will take place on 11/18. Yes, it’s close, and I am nervous now.

music, films, and love

The Gadabout Traveling Film Festival
I attended a traveling film festival last night, in a little soccer course near the campus with two guys...my friend Keigo, a Kyoto boy who was a drummer in Japan, and my roommate Fil, a rock music guitarist. There were 6 bands played music until 9, then more than 20 creative films were showed as a roll. This festival was founded by one of the guitarists in those bands, and he is my roommate Fil's friend.
.
It was really a small activity. In this community soccer course, there were only two tables with their CDs and T-shirts, one household stand lamp as a spotlight, 4 old speakers, and a piece of canvas hanging on the frame of a soccer goal as a screen. However, the music was good, and films were amazing!! Awesome!!! It is too difficult to tell you how great they were, but I think most of films in this “gadabout” film festival were even more interesting than those films in some official festivals in Taipei. In these three months, these rock music musicians are going to travel through more than 10 states in America by their old trucks. They will play their music, show their films, and make friends with people all around this country! Wow! So cool! I want to go with them > <
.
It is about 10°C in late night now. The temperature was going down again in these two days. Last night, I sat behind a boy and a girl. They sat on their quilt and hugged each other when the cold wind blowing through the soccer course. I can’t help watching them…so enviable!! Meow~~

 Wanted!!
Could anybody take a beautiful and detailed moon cake picture for me?
I am really really missing moon cakes~~
If you have one, please sent to my email box:
Thanx > <...
.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming. I've been seeing some moon cake ads on the Internet. They really make me homesick. There are also some cake companies in NYC, which have delivery service. However~~the prices are so expensive~~~ Including delivery fee, I might have to pay more than $30 dollars to get 10 little salty egg moon cakes. Hooh~~~Moooon caaaake > ___ <
.
I went to an art history lecture class to be an auditor this Monday evening. The name of the class is INTRO VISUAL ART. The class takes three hours in a cold and dark lecture classroom. I have to say, it is definite a boring class and the English is also very hard for me. Fortunately I have taken some art history class in university, so I can somewhat understand what the professor was talking about. A Taiwanese girl who went to the class with me almost fell asleep. She escaped in the break......
.
Anyway, let's wait and see~It was just the first class.

I got a haircut !

I got a haircut this afternoon, so my hair is like this now↑
.
I like short hair. A short hairstyle lets me feel free because I don't have to think about what it looks like on my head and so on. My hair was a little bit too long lately, and I had to comb it every morning...I was tired of it, so I went to a barber shop on the street this afternoon.
.
The barber was a kind and talkative old man. After I told him what kind of hair style I need, he started to cut my hair and ask me some interesting questions at the same time.
.
"Let me ask you some interesting questions." The barber said. "How to stop your dog barking in the house...it's a little tricky."
"Aaaa...Let it barking outside!" I said.
"Oh...you are smart. And...the second question is: How to stop your dog barking on the front seat in your car?" He said.
I thought about it for a while because this question is too easy. "Let it barking on the back seat. It's a same question with the first one!"
"Ok! Ok! Now, it's the last question..." He smiled craftily. " Why dogs prefer to lie in shadow? "
I really didn't know, so I guessed. "Because dogs don't like hot."
"It's close." He said. However I still had no idea about this question. I gave up.
"Your answer was very close...The answer is: They don't want to become hot dogs!"
"I was afraid that you don't know what hot dog is, but you know it, isn't it?"
Wow...ha ha...=__=
.
It was my first time to cut hair in America. After these questions, we talked about the campus life, something about Taiwan, and some stupid American movie like "Fantastic Four". He liked some Taiwanese and Chinese movies and said a couple of movies' names. Because of translation, the only one that I could understant was "Raise the Red Lantern"(大紅燈籠高高掛). Then I told him my favorite movies. One of them was the Italian movie "Nuovo cinema Paradiso."(新天堂樂園) He felt very surprised and told me he is an Italian, came to America in 1960s. He loves this movie, but no American young people know it. He was very happy that I knew and loved it.
.
The haircut cost $8, but I gave him $10 including tips. I felt so good when I walk out of the barber shop. Although my new hairstyle is just short and...no style, it was a very pleasant experience.

the stupid ID cards

This is my new room......
.
The new semester is almost start. I checked in and put my luggage in my room yesterday, yet my student ID card was not working for my room, I lived with my friend in his room in the another dorm. Today was the day that almost every student moved into their dorm for new semester. Starting from the morning, this quiet campus which was surrounded by forest, was full of cars, students, and their families. Every one was moving their stuff. I got up late. When my friend's new roommate came, I just packed my stuff up form his bed and ready to leave. I was a bit embarrased because he was confused that why their was the other guy lived in his room.
.
I fixed my card in the afternoon. It seemed a common problem. The students got their cards today, but many of them had problem. For this reason, there was a long line in front of the ID card office. Many students didn't know their cards were not working and went shopping for sheets, quilts, detergent or something else. When they came back at night, every one were locked out of the door. They requested resident assistants to open their doors, but they had to wait for tomorrow business time to fix their cards.
.
It's a little story of nothing. I just want to write something for practice.
Sleepy~~~~
.
Incidentally, this SUNY student ID card is useful. Because of it, I can enter MOMA for free ticket. They charge $20 for adult and $12 for regular students.

I am back~~

I just finished a two weeks trip in New York City. It was a whole new experiance for me because it was not my first or second time to come to New York City. I have been to almost every "important" tourist spot in guide book before, so I had a really unrestrained vocation in these two weeks. I didn't need to go somewhere in a hurry.
.
" IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!" It is a very common catchword in subway to remind passengers for doubtful things. (I also saw an artist used this one as a material for his art in a gallery...ha ha...) I saw many interesting things in my trip, and I tried to write down everything for you. However, that writting became very boring and strange, and I couldn't finish it. I wrote them down just like a long list! It would be better if I just focus on only one thing and write something about it each time...
.
Anyway, I came back to SUNY New Paltz, my little, quilt, countryside campus this afternoon. I can live with my squirrals, ducks, geese and firebugs again. ha ha ha ＋﹏＋
.
The photo is Coney Island, the south seashore of Brooklyn. A very odd place...

it's August

.
Yeaterday was the last day of this summer. We got a TOEFL test in the morning, and a little party with ceremony after that. There was Chinese food in the party...it was Chinese food, but something strange. I thought it was food that seems like Chinese food. The weather was hot. Cold drink was exhausted soon. In the end, I could only drink hot water in a thermos bottle.
.
I got an outstanding student award of in the end. The other student who got this award in my class is a pretty and hard working Japanese girl. Incidentally, she is a Japanese girl who really has a Japanese face.(I hope it woun't be rude :D )
.
My friends and I participated in a party last night. That was my second time to go party. I came back early because I forgot to bring my passport with me so that I couldn't drink alcohol, and the music was too loud. Last time we joined a Japanese boy's birthday party. That was really great. We drank bear and played some stupid game. Everybody was a little bit drunk. I noticed that my English was very good at that time, and my friends also.
.
The fall semester will start at 8/23, and I'll leave New Paltz, live in New York City from 8/8~8/20. I found a cheap sublet apartment in Queens so that I can vist PS1 and galleries in Chelsea easily. Saving a lot of time and money on travel.
.
There are many photos that I took in NYC and Boston in this summer as follows!

1st week in NY

I have come to New York for 10 days. Now, I am a student of SUNY New Paltz Language Program. New Paltz is a small village in the Hudson River Valley. By bus, it takes one and a half hours from New York City to get here. I live in dormitory with two roommates. One is a Turkish guy, the other one is from San Marino, a little independent country in Italy.
.
After English classes for the first week, we went to NYC yesterday. It’s of course having a lot of fun and I will show you my photos in few days. Anyhow, here are three sets of photos. First one is about the flight from Taiwan to New York, second one have photos that I shot on Hudson River, and the last one are some photos about this little place New Paltz and a firework baseball game we joined on 4 July.
.
Life here is substantial. I have 5 and a half hours English class a day, 4 days a week, and of course some homework and quizzes. Dining service is good, but I think their food is not good for health, usually too salty, sweet, or greasy. Students here always eat a lot. I fear that I would become a fat guy when I come back to Taiwan, so I regulate that I can only eat one plate every meal, and no soda!
.
Anyway, I am fine ^__^Y

I went to Taipei this weekend, because my friends and I are arranging a new exhibition in Taipei. However, the main purpose of this trip was that...there was a little BBQ party in our studio on Saturday. All guys in the pictures are my best friends in Taipei, and some of them are really good Artists (but they don't care about that). They're very sincere about their art.

In the future, I will write my blog in Chinese and English these two languages simultaneously to practice my English. If you can help me with my English, please give me a comment ^ 0 ^
