《Merry Christmas~》Have Yourself A Merry Little Chritmas
根據ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers)在2006年對美國人做holiday songs的排行,上次介紹的〈The Christmas Song〉是榜上第一名,而緊追在後的,就是這首〈Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas〉。這首〈Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas〉,原本是首悲傷的歌。

〈Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas〉這首歌本是為了音樂劇《Meet Me In St. Louis》所寫,其中一幕Judy Garland與飾演她7歲妹妹的Margaret O'Brien在聖誕節卻必須離開她們所愛的家,在懷著些悲傷、憂鬱、摻雜著懷念、憧憬、與希望等交雜的複雜心情下所唱出。
《Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas》
ORIGINAL VERSION
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Pop that champagne cork
Next year we may all be living in New York
No good times like the olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us no more
But at least we all will be together
If the Lord allows
From now on, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
JUDY GARLAND VERSION
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away
Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us once more
Someday soon we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
FRANK SINATRA VERSION
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
