       最近因為收入來源短缺,已經許久不曾買過唱片。2009年度到目前為止也不曾買過一張唱片(倒是有好心的朋友Yves送一張巴哈的小提琴作品給我,相當感謝他的善舉),遂趁著這段空窗期把以前上班所犯下的罪孽一一贖清(笑)。首當其衝的就是貝提尼這套馬勒。前後花了將近一個星期不到的時間,從第一號交響曲聽到第十號的慢版,大概是太久沒有聽馬勒了才有辦法在這麼短的時間內壓縮聽完洋洋灑灑的全集吧!

       剛買這套全集時,曾經在著名的香港古典上看到評品貝提尼這套全集,主筆林瑋求先生是這麼說的:「如果你只想買一套馬勒的話,這套就是了。再買拉圖與柏林愛樂的第十,你可以不再花一毛錢買馬勒。」講這話或許有點武斷,隨後他又可愛地補上一句「當然,真正的古典音樂狂迷,又怎會輕易言休呢?」此言真是妙哉。可惜林先生的網站從08年7月底之後就未曾更新。回想起來他妙語如珠的註腳真是我當兵每星期回家必讀的精神糧食。(笑)

       話題回到貝提尼這套馬勒吧!除了八號這曲子個人喜好不甚喜歡無法做出評斷外,整套來說我想當喜歡他的一到四號,以及九號和大地之歌。五、六、七這三首似乎被貝提尼演得太過溫吞,加上這三首的器樂風格似乎不是貝提尼擅長的表現。比較起來一號到四號這四首宛若歌曲的作品真是驚為天人,貝提尼棒下的科隆廣播交響樂團,音色相當收放自如,尤其在一號中的表現讓我聽了相當驚訝。對於貝提尼指揮的九號,吾友老皮贊曰:「其他的指揮家不斷的帶我們進入馬勒的世界,Gary Bertini則讓我們看到了宇宙中的馬勒。Gary Bertini的演奏超越生死的藩籬,並非轉折,亦非蛻變,那是亙古永恆下的一縷呼吸,完美的弧線。」(出自靈蘭教私人月刊2916篇,2005/03/25)我寫不出這麼具有哲理的文字,但是在透過老皮文字加上貝提尼的詮釋,字裡行間我們似乎感受到了那種生死無邊的境界。

       若要從價格、錄音和演出等三項標準來看的話,貝提尼這套馬勒絕對是超值的選擇。真要挑缺點的話,大概是指揮的名氣比不上更大咖的指揮吧!但是對於演出本身這絕對不是一項必要的條件,尤其在四號中聽到甜美的波普演唱,更有超值的感覺,這樣也可省下一張中價位的錢去買鄧許泰特的馬勒四(笑)。
