In a style not unlike that of Andrei Tarkovsky, this film takes us on a lonely train ride up into a valley in the remote region on the border between Romania and the Ukraine. The entire valley can only be accessed by means of this railroad. The filmmaker treats this region as a zone that borders are running in all directions at the same time...

“In documentary history, especially in the films of the Soviet Union, the railroad was usually used to document and propagate economical growth and the realization of a social utopia, which would connect even the farthest region to the common land. In our film, this economic growth and the leftovers of a Soviet industry, now globalized in an international conglomerate, is transformed not only into a farce, but it also shows the harsh realities of labor in a time, where the representation of manual labor is more and more vanishing. Another concern of the film is to include landscape as an integral part of the documentarist’s sensibility towards representing reality and to create a pure filmic space.” - Georg Paul Tiller & Claudio Pfeifer
