WHO BENEFITS FROM GAY MARRIAGE ANYWAY?


11/4 on the election day, California passed Proposition 8 which banned gay marriage. There were several anti-gay policies have been passed on the same day in other states. 11/15 we held a national wide protest in response to proposition 8. Thousands of people gathered at Volunteer Park and marched towards downtown. Queer people of color have been scapegoated as the reasons why proposition 8 passed by the mainstream gay communities, because people of color communities are often stereotyped as more traditional, conservative, and thus--homophobic, which is completely ridiculous. Homophobia in the white communities is not any less than homophobia in queer people of color communities. We were at the rally to address the issues. Marriage is a white middle class concern and we should focus more on getting basic rights for all people such as universal health care without getting them through the institution of marriage.

Walking from 10:30 to 5::30 and shouting the whole time about social justice. I was fucking exhausted but never felt so so so liberated.
