2001年百老匯音樂劇"The Producers"破天荒地獲得15項東尼獎提名, 接下來又破天荒地奪得12項大獎, 包括最佳音樂劇, 劇本, 導演, 編舞, 男主角, 男配角, 女配角等多項大獎, 劇中的二位男主角納修連恩(Nathan Lane)及馬修柏德利(Matthew Broderick)和三位男配角(Roger Bart, Gary Beach, Brad Oscar)同時獲得提名, 如果扣除這些無法重覆的獎項, The Producers等於是有提名就有獎拿。東尼獎頒獎典禮上, 獲得最佳男演員獎的Nathan Lane把同時入圍卻未能獲獎的搭擋Matthew Borderick也一起拉上台了, 成了當年東尼獎令人印象深刻的一幕。

現在The Producers以幾乎全是首演的卡司從舞台回到大營幕了, 這部東尼獎12項大奬的音樂劇大作, 以現在的道德觀來看, 應該是一部蠻"該死"的影片, 片中大肆嘲弄同性戀, 老女人, 納粹等等, 如果以現在的價值觀來評價, 我們就等著看一堆人示威吧。幸好它是1960年代末期的產物, 對大部份人而言似乎比較Forgivable.
Nathan Lane飾演Max Bialystock, 曾是King of Broadway的落魄製作人, Matthew Broderick 飾演Leo Bloom, 一名畏畏縮縮又神經質的小會計, 這兩個人發現在Broadway, 爛秀有時比好秀賺錢, 於是開始他們製作爛戲的計劃, 他們找來希特勒崇拜者劇作家, 崇尚"Show should be more......gay"(快樂/同性戀雙關語)的同性戀導演(連同他一票同性戀製作班底), 以製作人的女朋友都會有一個角色為由安插一位連英文都講不清楚的瑞典美女到戲中, 並以取悅獨居老太太的方式募得資金, 接下來兩人就等著看這齣名為The Springtime for Hitler的大爛戲在開幕當天就落幕, 好捲款逃到里約去。沒想到, 人算不如天算, 新戲不僅不落幕, 還大受好評, 這下要怎麼辦呢?
Tony Award winner Nathan Lane is really amazing. He catched everyone's attention with his every movement. I haven't realized that he's such a good singer (by Max Bialystock). :-)
Matthew Broderick, who received Tony Award nomination by playing Leo Bloom; however, I couldn't see his strength in the movie. It looked like that he's getting tired of the role. However, Broderick's performance was still better than what I'd expected. Perhaps this was because that he had never impressed me in the past.
Uma Thurman (Ulla), I wish my English is better so I can catch more of her lines. She was very funny and sexy, and perhaps the smartest one of all. Uma Thurman was just right for the movie version Ulla.
Will Ferrell (Franz Liebkind), Roger Bart (Carmen Ghia), and Gary Beach (Roger De Bris) are all very good broadway actors. However, the way they used to perform on the stage might not be suitable in the movie. They were all good , but I just didn't like over exaggerated performances.
Director Susan Stroman is another Tony winner. I guess she is a newbie in the movie industry. I didn't like the way she placed an actor right in front the camera. This worked when Max shouted "I want that money!", but didn't work very well in other instances.
The music was pleasant but strangely, I couldn't remember any song after I walked out the theater. The story was very funny and the lines were witty. Everyone laughed from the beginning to the end. I guess I laughed too much to remember the songs.
I hope I will have a chance to see its Chinese translation. There were still some puns that I couldn't catch very well.
Nice show. Think about the price of its Broadway ticket, $10 for the movie is definitely worth.
