日光是滿地都是日本國寶的地方, 可惜去的時候下大雨, 不論雨衣或雨傘都擋不住雨勢, 全身溼答答, 冷到發抖, 玩興少一半, 更別說拍照的興緻了。

所謂日光的世界遺產, 指的是東照宮, 二荒山神社及輪王寺這二社一寺的週邊建築群。這一地區並不是什麼荒郊野外, 實事上它離繁華的日光市區只有一街之隔。但當你進入這一社一寺所形成的空間時, 氣氛馬上不一樣, 好像連空氣都變得清新起來。

圖為二荒山神社的神橋, 圖的左邊是日光市區, 右邊過了沿著河興建的二線道馬路後, 就進入日光的世界遺產了。神橋有一個很有趣的傳說, 據說遠古時代, 有高明的聖者想渡河到對面的二荒山去修行, 可是河水湍急, 結果他只能在岸邊焦急。這時候山裏的兩條大蛇飛出, 在他面前形成這道橋, 於是聖人得以渡河。

Japanese craftsmen had never seen an elephant. The sculptures of elephants were created purely from imagination.


National treasure, the sleeping cat, was created by legendary master Hidari Jingoro (左甚五郎). The legend said that the cat would hunt down mice to protect the grave of Ieyasu Tokugawa (德川家康).

中禪寺湖
這是介於日光和湯元間的一個美麗湖泊, 是日本三高瀑布之一的華嚴瀑布及二荒山神社中宮祠的所在地。

Futarasan Chugushi Shrine (二荒山神社中宮祠) is located on the side of Lake Chuzenji (中禪寺湖). Its main Shrine is in Nikko City.
