Although this 1998 CD reissue features the Chet Baker Quartet (in what was a reunion session), it was originally released under pianist Russ Freeman's  name. All but two of the eight songs on the set (&quot;Love Nest&quot; and &quot;Lush  Life&quot;) are compositions by the pianist and they often feature both  challenging chord changes and swinging solos. Baker,  who improvises on the date with a fair amount of fire while sticking to  his middle register, emerges as the key soloist although Freeman sounds quite original within the genre; bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Shelly Manne play tastefully in quiet support of the lead voices. All of the music was previously reissued as part of the complete Chet Baker Quartet limited-edition Mosaic box set that has since gone out of print. Well worth exploring.]]>

This live concert from the Storyville Club in Boston features Gerry Mulligan's Quartet in late 1956. Baritonist Mulligan had found a perfect partner in valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and (with the sympathetic support of bassist Bill Crow and drummer Dave Bailey)  they romp through a variety of standards and group originals including  such odd titles as &quot;Bweebida Bwobbida,&quot; &quot;Utter Chaos&quot; (their theme song)  and &quot;Bike Up the Strand.&quot; A fine all-round performance from this  cool-toned bop unit. This may be the straightest record Cecil  Taylor ever recorded, but it is far from uninspiring. Despite its  hopelessly gauche cover &mdash; one can only presume Taylor had no say-so in  the choice of artwork used &mdash; Taylor&rsquo;s approach to three Cole Porter  tunes with a trio and three of his own with a quintet is a lively  combination, and one which, in lieu of his later work, reveals the  construction of his system of improvisation better than his later  records do when he is playing from the middle of it. 聽完化名[Post-foetus]這位來自美國加州，只有20多歲的電音創作人Will Wiesenfeld的專輯【The Fabric】，我想起兒時一幕：拿著剃鬚刀往根本沒鬍子的臉刮去，一道血痕除了換來父母的責罵，還記載著那一夥於兒童軀體內卻急於成長的心。諷刺的是，日盼夜盼的成長來臨了，面對世道的廝磨，卻又想回到童稚時代那無憂的歲月。其實，每個人都是長不大的孩子。我們想放任，想隨天性而行，只是一副成人的皮囊成為障礙。人生就是在這矛盾中前行。怎樣去處理這種既是成人卻又想擁抱童稚的複雜心理？大概這就是[Post-foetus]的音樂主題：你看他的名字「後胚胎」不就是這心理的寫照？ 慎密和灑脫的節拍，還有偶而加插的弦樂片段，是[Post-foetus]音樂成熟的面向，然而偶意出現的琴音，還有Will主唱的純情和老實，卻又令人感到童稚的那種簡單和純粹。這兩種衝突的原素不斷在專輯中互相擊盪，產生一種難以言傳的矛盾快感。幾年前有人發明了kidult這詞語來歸納這群不願長大的成年人，不過到了這年頭kidult也大都指向消費層面和生活形態。你當然可以簡單地歸納[Post-foetus]為kidult一族，但我敢說他不止於此。聆聽他的溫暖電音，你能感受到他擁抱童稚的同時，卻不會放下作為成年人的種種責任和尊嚴。 作為m&uuml;-nest首張非亞洲創作專輯，[Post-foetus]仍然帶來溫婉的流麗電音，卻多了一份來自西方的理性自省味道。或者好的音樂都是這樣，感動人心的往往都百味紛陳，bittersweet永遠比單純的甜密或苦澀來得難忘。 dosss (文字工作者,樂評人 - 香港)   ]]>

 						In early 2011 Luke Vibert (who happened to be bringing to Ninja Tune HQ  cushions designed like 808 drum machines as a present!) said that he had  just found some, long-lost never heard before DATs dated 1995-1998  and entitled Plug. This we are sure will bring bearded pogoing type  excitement for many of you but for those that doesn't happen to here's a  quick recap....&nbsp;  In 1996 Blue Angel Recordings (later Blue Planet) an imprint of the  legendary Rising High label released the Drum 'N' Bass for Papa album  by Plug AKA West Country king of kitschtronica Luke Vibert, whom at that  time had only released under his Wagon Christ moniker. The album cover  was an old picture of his professional magician grandfather Frank which  only added to the oddness in the best of ways. The album was largely  ignored by the D'n'B purists at the time, however it was hailed by many  beyond, and remains to this day one of the acclaimed records to emerge  from the buoyant and hugely influential electronic scene of the  south-west in the 90's. Alongside people like Aphex Twin, Tom Middleton,  Grant Wilson-Claridge and Jeremy Simmonds and away from the lights and  police of the big cities they put on club nights, filled cassettes with  new tunes, hijacked the pirates and revelled in all that was original,  twisted and like nothing else before. And whilst there is no doubting  the talent of all these individuals, it has always been Vibert's keen  sense of humour and also funk that enabled him to evolve to a stage to  make a landmark release such as Drum 'N' Bass for Papa.  So a few years later and somewhat ahead of the curve, Vibert shook up  D'n'B - at that point no album had been released in the genre that  departed from the formulaic template. Avant-jungle that wasn't made for  the &quot;club&quot;, the album was an eccentric bolt from the blue, it shocked  many of Vibert's contemporaries but went on to influence many, most  notably Squarepusher.   At the same time Luke's Wagon Christ project was  being snapped up by Chemical Brothers A+R man at Virgin Records for his  3rd album, so a new name was needed for his eccentric d'n'b output, and  Plug was born. Until now Plug has yielded just one album - possibly only  a humble man like Luke Vibert would have a whole album of top-quality  electronic tracks just sat around for over 15 years and not release  them. The 10 tracks on offer here include the proto-garage vocal  stylings of &quot;Feeling So Special&quot;, the demented circus-organs of &quot;No  Reality&quot;, the hilariously titled &quot;Come On My Skeleton&quot;, the old-skool  rinse out of &quot;Mind Bending&quot;, the skewed bollywoodisms of &quot;A Quick Plug  for A New Shot&quot; and all with impeccably produced jungle credentials as  the bed.&nbsp;  Sounding brand new as well as being a lost classic from a electronic  icon, Back On Time is a release that anybody interested in the  progression of dance music should be very curious to hear and enjoy.&nbsp;						    ]]>

A new dream duo in European Jazz: Together with  Armenian pianist Tigran the bassist Lars Danielsson discovers new  musical spaces and emphasises the freedom of music between chamber jazz,  classic and European folk music.Lars Danielsson-The bassist Lars Danielsson is reknown and admired in the International        Jazz world for his lyrical but groovy playing. Not least his capability        to improve the appearance of the melody has brought him around the world        in a number of various musical constellations.       Lars Danielsson was born in 1958 and was educated from the Music Conservatory        in Gothenburg. Both on double bass, electric bass and cello - (his originally        main instrument from the days at the conservatory) - he is an extraordinary        soloist and accompanist, who gives the music edge and colourful temperament.                     &quot;Lars Danielsson Quartet&quot; with former Miles Davis saxophonist        David Liebman, pianist Bobo Stenson and legendary ECM drummer Jon Christensen        has been receiving loads of recognition and awards during the 20 years in        which the Quartet has existed. This Quartet has been a playground for Danielssons        work as a composer and arranger, which he has extended to include both Symphony        Orchestra and Big Band music. - During the previous years in co-operation        with Danmarks Radios RUO Orchestra (a Symphony Orchestra) as a composer,        arranger and producer. He was the conductor and composer of the Jazz Baltica        Ensemble                     for two years. Tim Berne - alto saxophone            Oscar Noriega    - B♭ and bass clarinets            Matt Mitchell    - piano            Ches Smith    - drums; percussion    After compelling contributions to ECM discs by David Torn and Michael  Formanek, here is Tim Berne&rsquo;s first leader date for the label.  &ldquo;Snakeoil&rdquo; introduces a fascinating ensemble, a &ldquo;chamber-like group&rdquo; in  Berne&rsquo;s words, albeit one that packs some power. Tim&rsquo;s tough alto is  heard with Oscar Noriega&rsquo;s earthy clarinets, Mat Mitchell&rsquo;s cryptic  piano, and Ches Smith&rsquo;s tone-conscious drums, tympani, gongs and congas.  Berne: &ldquo;I'd decided on this very transparent instrumentation to try and  avoid obvious stylistic references and to focus the listener on the  musical ideas being presented.&rdquo; Two years of wood-shedding preceded the  recording of &ldquo;Snakeoil&rdquo; at New York&rsquo;s Avatar Studios early in 2011, and  the band was ready to roar. The disc is issued on the eve of a tour that  takes in dates on both sides of the Atlantic.]]>

Sax player Tore Brunborg is given an important voice here, his  melodic lines combining bluesy sonority and Nordic cry. Gently but  effectively propelled by the subtle pulses of drummer Jarle Vespestad  and bassist Mats Eilertsen, Gustavsen's gospel-tinged, unhurried piano  playing displays a characteristic warmth and tenderness.   ]]>

時間 Date：03-Feb-2012, Friday8:00PM門票 Ticket： MOP $80 演出地點Venue：牛房倉庫Ox Warehouse售票點 Ticket Office：牛房倉庫 及 邊度有書　Ox Warehouse &amp;&nbsp; Pin-to Livros現場不設劃位 Seats are not assigned詳細活動資訊請參閱牛房倉庫部落格： http://oxwarehouse.blogspot.com/年假後的二月三日晚上八點，牛房倉庫又有好節目，來自北歐挪威的四人自由即興樂團Muringa將難得於澳門舉行音樂會。談起歐陸自由即興音樂（European Free Improvisation），可回溯到1960年代一眾歐陸樂手，以他們自身的歐洲當代音樂背景，對美國黑人自由爵士（Free Jazz）的回應；當年激浪派（Fluxus）藝術運動也啟發了這些人對噪音（noise）的看法，並融入到他們演奏當中，從此英法德荷等地便成為即興音樂重鎮。但同時間北歐的挪威，以他們獨特的地理人文環境、政府對音樂的大力推廣、還有優良的音樂教育，逐漸發展出屬於他們的即興音樂美學，而且新人輩出，引起全球樂迷注意，像Supersilent和Jaga Jazzist就是很好例子。這次來澳的Muringa雖然表面上是一個新組合，今年即將在挪威廠牌SOFA出版首張專輯《The unknown knowns》，但四位成員其實都是來頭不少、身經百戰的挪威即興音樂中堅份子，他們以往曾經以murmur的名義組團，Muringa可說是murmur的變奏。Muringa由薩克斯風與黑管手Klaus Ellerhusen Holm、吉他手Kim Myhr、演奏土巴號與笙的Martin Taxt 和打擊樂手Tor Haugerud組成，四位樂手以他們對音樂／聲音質感、肌理的敏銳理解，精準的即興演奏技巧，透過聆聽、反應、撞擊或合流，每次演出皆從零開始，完全創造出一種全新可能性，自由遊走在極大與極微間，給人毫不設限、無法預期的音樂魅力。他們以挪威第三大城特隆赫姆（Trondheim）為基地，當地爵士樂氛圍是出了名的熱烈，不但每年有盛大爵士音樂節，特隆赫姆音樂學院（Trondheim Conservatory）更培養出一批傑出的爵士樂手。Holm正是畢業於該校爵士樂系，目前除了Muringa還參與好幾個不同組合（Ballrogg、Sinepuxent、Trondheim Jazz Orchestra等），活躍於挪威爵士即興樂壇。以土巴號（Tuba）與笙作即興音樂的，印象中並不多，不過Muringa的成員之一Martin Taxt卻是箇中高手。他深受當代作曲家Helmut Lachenmann、Giacinto Scelsi、John Cage跟Morton Feldman影響，啟發他對日常生活聲響的重視，合作對象從即興實驗的Tetuzi Akiyama、Toshimaru Nakamura到當代爵士的Dave Douglas、Mathias Eick等，都是該領域的代表性人物。Kim Myhr則是近年來備受矚目的吉他手，08年獲挪威著名的莫爾德（Molde）國際爵士音樂節頒發JazZtipend獎金，並受邀為爵士即興大樂團 Trondheim Jazz Orchestra譜曲，不過他最喜歡的還是自由即興演奏，並擔任每年十一月在特隆赫姆舉行的前衛音樂節Fri Resonans策展人，為推動當地新音樂發展出力。最後要介紹的Muringa成員是打擊樂手Tor Haugerud，承襲歐陸自由即興音樂的影響，Tor發展出一套非常個人化的演奏風格，並通過打擊樂探索微妙、特別的聲音，表達演奏當下的個人內在情感，有時候也會加上信號產生器（signal generator）和實地錄音（field recordings）的元素。Tor獨特的打擊風格讓他有機會跟Han Bennink、St&aring;le Storl&oslash;kken、Andy Sheppard 、Joshua Redman、Jon Balke、Terje Rypdal、Sidsel Endresen、Sainkho Namchylak 與Christian Wallumr&oslash;d等音樂高手合作過招，有趣的是，他也是一名專業的表演藝術工作者，對超現實主義藝術劇場情有獨鍾，還為這些劇團擔任作曲。Muringa這次除了在澳門演出，還會到新加坡、吉隆坡、順化、河內、廣州與深圳巡迴，自由即興音樂從來不「大眾」，因為它對演奏者與聆聽者都是一種考驗：它可以難以理解，也可以趣味十足，一切取決於每個人能否從既有文化框架中解放出來，回歸聲音本身。（子嬰）http://www.myspace.com/murmurnorwegenhttp://www.klausholm.no/http://www.taxt.no/http://www.kimmyhr.com/http://www.myspace.com/torhaugerudhttp://www.sofamusic.no/]]>

多年前一場面對面的訪談，Stacey Kent告訴我：「快樂唱歌，就是最美妙的夢！」連作夢也愛唱歌的她，我們卻從沒有機會聽到她現場演唱的錄音。2011年5月，她在法國巴黎最夯的La Cigale劇院舉辦了一場個唱，這次的演出被紀錄下來了，正握在您手上。音樂會走一貫的四重奏編制，或該說是五重奏，因為吉他底子不弱的Stacey Kent也抱著吉他彈唱，就像她在台灣表演時一樣。鋼琴手是Graham Harvey，幾首作品還使上了經典的鍵盤樂器Fender Rhodes。貝斯手是Jeremy Brown，鼓手則是從專輯「詩情‧畫意」開始長期合作的Matt Skelton。至於薩克斯風手，當然是原則上一輩子不會更換的愛人老公Jim Tomlinson。Stacey Kent將近年暢銷專輯裡最受歡迎的曲目作了番回顧，有點蒙太奇式的拼貼邏輯，標準曲、法國香頌、創作曲與Bossa Nova此起彼落，觀眾也同樣沉浸在這五彩繽紛的浪漫氛圍裡。台灣聽眾最喜愛的「早安‧幸福」，Kent選擇了由日裔小說家石黑一雄填詞的標題曲 《Breakfast on the Morning Tram》做現場詮釋。同樣由石黑先生填詞的《Postcard Lovers》，則是夫婿Jim Tomlinson的全新創作首演，浪漫唯美的遠距離戀愛氛圍，其它唱片裡絕對聽不到。類似邏輯還包括《O Comboio》，同樣Tomlinson譜曲，但由Antonio Ladeira填詞。前陣子Kent把自己全心投入到葡萄牙語的環境裡，這首應當算是成果展現。巴西作曲大師Antonio Carlos Jobim的Bossa Nova經典《Dreamer》，也是在她過去專輯裡未曾錄製過的曲目。反過來看，聽Stacey Kent唱歌，我們不也像是作了場好夢？！(文字 / Gold Typhoon Music)]]>
