THEY KNOW WHAT GHOST KNOW / yppah


2009 release from the Texas-based Experimental/Electronic artist (AKA Joe Corrales, Jr.). Opening track 'Son Saves The Rest' is wall-of-noise guitar pummeller. 'Gumball Machine Weekend' sounds like southern-fried Go! Team with more Soul. 'Playing With Fireworks' somehow reminds you of the way you felt stuck between childhood and the adult world, not a million miles from instrumental tracks from the Phantom Band. 'Shutter Speed' is nostalgia psyched into a memorable tune. Title track 'They Know What Ghost Know' is West Coast Rock reimagined as Trance-rite, a spooky, echo-heavy drum-roll-filled set of repetitions and overlaps that builds into a tune which DJ Shadow in his heyday might have dreamed of making. 'Sun Flower Sun Kissed' takes the doomy grey skies of My Bloody Valentine and gives them a Texan make-over. 'Bobbie Joe Wilson' channels the Dust Brothers and proves Yppah hasn't lost his love of Hip Hop. (Ninja Tune).

THE LONG LOST同名專輯

The Long Lost is the sound of love--on so many levels and in so many ways that it's hard to list them. Imagine Nico had left The Velvet Underground and decided to relocate to California with Caetano Veloso. And imagine that the pair then slipped through a time portal while high on mescalin and came 'round in the late noughties, with the kind of production twists that era would allow. Imagine most of all their beautiful attempt to write and make a new popular music about love was completely sincere, utterly lacking in guile, and full of all the queasy, wonderful, sometimes awful overwhelming emotions.


The opening single, The Art of Kissing, sets the mood. Acoustic guitar, brushed drums, Laura Darlington on lead vocals, Alfred Darlington (a.k.a. Daedelus) backing up on choruses. It's a pitch-perfect template from which the group expands into edges of psychedelia (Sibilance), ribbons of bass clarinet (Overmuch), epic '40s film score (Ballroom Dance Club and Siren Song), bass simplicity (Colour), feline fantasy (Cat Fancy), music box melancholia (Finders Keepers), nursery rhyme romance (Domestics) and on and on. It's a flexible format, held together by the simplicity and beauty of Laura's voice--uninflected, almost matter-of-fact, but full of a strange kind of magic.(Ninjatune)

JOIN THE Q / the qemists

英倫三人組The Qemists 本年2月於Ninjatune旗下發行之專輯，把drum’n’bass 與搖滾二合為一樂產生強大的跳舞能量，難以想像以往是一搖滾樂團，特別請來美國搖滾團體Faith no more主音Mike Patton及grime 之父  Wiley 為其樂曲演奏主音及說唱部份。與樂風相近的Pendulum 相比，The Qemists 的音樂開端是由搖滾樂團開始，在此專輯中更能發現他們對搖滾樂結構的認知與鼓打貝斯的自然融合，在兩者的基礎上再加上Dancehall、Metal、Electro、Grime 及Hip-hop等元素。

Daedelus是來自洛杉磯的電音創作人Alfred Darlington的代號，其跨越類型、天馬行空的音樂風格總是讓人喜出望外。在最新作品《Love To Make Music To》當中，表明向90年代初英國rave culture致敬，卻沒有刻意懷舊，其融合Abstract Hiphop、Breakbeat、post rock、house與leftfield electronica等樂風，繁複之餘卻有能力呈現出細緻精巧的內在紋理，盡顯他獨到的音樂品味與源源不絕的音樂點子。

LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL / the cinematic orchestra




The Royal Albert Hall is the kind of venue where history is made. The Beatles and the Rollings Stones played a double bill here, legendary performances have been given from Pink Floyd to Frank Sinatra, Led Zep to Bob Dylan. And that's before you come to lectures from the likes of Stephen Hawking and the Dalai Lama. Or Muhammed Ali in the ring. Now think of a band who live to perform live. Beyond Jason Swinscoe's scintillating recordings the Cinematic Orchestra's ability to reinvent their material in the live arena has always made them stand out from their peers.


Last spring saw the release of latest album "Ma Fleur" and 2007 saw the band's most intense touring schedule to date. More and more requests for live recordings and more and more sell out shows. So when it came to the end of the year and a return to the city from where the band was first realised, the question was "Where? Where can you do the kind of show which will do celebrate a history and at the same time create something new??The band had always wanted a chance to develop into the Orchestra of their name, but they needed the kind of venue with the flexibility, the acoustics and the sheer scale to make it work.In the end there was only one place?

THE FOLEY ROOM / amon tobin

英國最成功的獨立電音廠牌Ninja Tune旗下國外藝人Amon Tobin發表全新作品「The Foley Room」。原籍巴西的他，個人對爵士樂的興趣，駕馭碎拍節奏的隨心所欲本領，真的是熟稔各家派別，每招每式無不爐火純青，卻又能隨時一翻手便轉出全新異境。絕非等閒之輩，可與之相提並論。一張被救回來的電音經典..值得費心細細玩味，建議不要用一般的電腦喇叭隨意聽，那樣會錯過太多Amon Tobin在聲音變化上的精彩演繹片斷。
