OVERTURE: LIVE IN NIPPON YUSEN SOKO 2006 / ghost



Japanese experimental rock overlords Ghost drop a psych bomb all over your home entertainment system with this audio-visual live document of their extended improvisations in an abandoned Warehouse in Yokohama, once used to house mailboats, but since renovated as an art gallery and creative space. Ghost have never before unleashed a purely improvised album upon the world, so this ambitious cross-platform project comes as an extra special treat, capturing the group at their most adventurous and unhinged. Both the audio and visual documents of the performance are filled out with airy volume, wafts of Michio Kurahara's wah-wah guitar sailing through the vast space while draughts of percussion add an element of loose rhythmic progression. ...繼續閱讀

THE SUN / fridge




在化身為電子樂手之前，Kieran Hebden(Four Tet)是一組三人Post-Rock樂隊的團員。由Kieran Hebden、Adem Ilhan和Sam Jeffers組成的Fridge，在2007年發行了繼大受樂評讚賞的“Happiness”，也是六年來的全新專輯。Fridge是支高度折衷性的Post-Rock樂隊，Krautrock、Free Jazz、Left-field Funk、Folktronica都是他們所涉足的樂風。冷冽、電氣化氣氛的招牌Fridge式Post-Rock，依然是讓人叫好，不論是各類風格的創作，Kieran Hebden總是不會叫我們失望。

GONE / mono(美國版)

 

 

Collecting all of MONO's rare and out-of-print non-album tracks, Gone perfectly (and chronologically) displays their astounding growth, from the modest opening notes of "Finlandia" to the scorched finale of "Little Boy (1945-Future)." These tracks are culled from a series of highly sought-after releases, including the Japanese-only debut Hey, You. EP, their split LP with Pelican, the Cameron Crowe-commissioned Memorie dal Futuro vinyl 10", and The Phoenix Tree, their out-of-print EP for the storied Travels In Constants series. All tracks have been beautifully remastered from their original master tapes, with both CD and 3xLP formats boasting absurdly beautiful deluxe packaging.

BURNING OFF IMPURITIES / grails

 

 

轉投旗下擁有Explosion In The Sky、Fridge、日本的Envy與Mono 等後搖滾樂隊的廠牌Temporary Residence後，Grails 的新專輯在即興元素大大減低之下，取而代之，是濃厚的東方民族音樂。

 

 

樂隊試著將電結他、貝斯的聲音，融入以民族音樂為主的旋律當中，體現著後搖滾所標榜的「以搖滾樂的樂器，做出非搖滾的音樂」。在不少後搖滾樂隊，大量使用結他效果器去營造迷幻感覺時，Grails則選擇將之營建在原音結他彈奏上。印度音樂般的旋律，在激昂的鼓點下，散發出後搖滾與民族音樂激盪出來的魅力。

PINATA / mexican institute of sound

 

去年發行的首張專輯"Mejico Maxico"大受歡迎，讓樂風揉合Hip-Hop、Cumbia及Cha Cha等新派及復古舞曲元素的Mexican Institue Of Sound，得到國外各大音樂傳媒的廣泛重視。MIS的新專輯”Pinata”更得到Cornelius、Tom Tom Club，以及墨西哥的Café Tacuba 與阿根廷的Babasonicos等拉丁樂手的客席助陣，其融合拉丁音樂與電子搖滾樂的創新風格，就如 BBC所說”當Gomez Manu Chao 遇上The Avalanches”!

STATELESS / stateless

  

由主唱Chris James領軍的Stateless，編制上是一支不折不扣的5人搖滾樂隊，然而在首張同名專輯裡所散發出來的，卻是一支懂得善用sampling、programming以及orchestral strings作為複合媒材的聰明音樂組合；據知Stateless在里茲當地其實已相當火紅，跟著受到製作人Jim Abbiss的鼓勵與背書製作下，他們才從一支經常穿梭DJ Show演出的音樂團體搖身成為Stateless樂隊。主唱Chris James那近似Coldplay那感傷沉溺的嗓音，以及一手夢幻簡斂的鋼琴伴奏，起初會令人錯覺只是Coldplay的仿傚樂隊；仔細聽完"Prism #1"、"Exit"、"Bloodstream"以及"This Language"等等歌曲之後，情況完全改觀。


僅管先行單曲「Prism #1」揉合著一班英式Brit-Pop樂隊的搖滾風味，甚至令人想起當年的Mansun，但是再繼續聽下去，你會發現他們成功地結合了London Session Orchestra大樂隊的伴奏，延伸出一般樂隊絕對難以臨駕的磅礡氣勢，情況倒也似幾年前的Hope Of The States。一曲"This Language"甚至邀來曾經與DJ Shadow合作的Hip-Hop名將Lateef The Truthspeaker(Lateef)跨刀Rappin演出，情況有點類似當年UNKLE的「Psyence Fiction」專輯。注重樂隊整體編曲結構，DJ-scratch、Loop以及String Arrangement的伴奏，無怪乎Stateless能成為!K7 Records旗下最被期待的Indie-Rock新聲，同時也是Roots Manuva口中那個高深莫測的音樂勁旅；Stateless，今年英國里茲搖滾與電音的新血脈，Whisperinandhollerin.com滿分、DJ Magazine四顆半星熱烈推薦。(boyethan)

SKY BLUE SKY / wilco

 
‧榮獲葛萊美「最佳另類音樂專輯」的Wilco，從來不需要華麗綴飾加諸於身，其頻頻展露出的質樸自然聲感，如同晨間呼吸到清新空氣般舒爽

‧睽違3年最新大碟力薦：輕柔Acoustic質感的「Either Way」，以及對於專研吉他彈奏的朋友絕對不能錯過的「Impossible Germany」和「Side With The Seeds」

相距三年時間，Wilco以全新大碟"Sky Blue Sky"重回舞台。灌入輕柔Acoustic質感的「Either Way」，民謠淡淡純樸拉出弦樂潤飾，感動之情滿溢曲中；堆疊的二部合音引來「You Are My Face」，迷幻式的吉他重力響音劃過原以為柔順音階之鋪陳，層次極為鮮明的分出落差強烈之橋段，聆聽情緒不免被激起陣陣波動；長達近六分鐘且在順暢吉他陪襯的「Impossible Germany」，中段獨秀吉他Solo毫無演唱搭腔下，似乎那神乎其技的吉他彈奏技巧，猶如對話般上演一齣吉他即興「演唱」，過癮十足，對於專研吉他彈奏的朋友絕對不要錯聽此曲，同樣戲碼繼續上演在「Side With The Seeds」之中；帶著傷感線條的「Hate It Here」，濃濃藍調氣息包裹Jeff那感染力極強的演唱方式，替失落心情找到暫時撫慰的角落；俏皮琴韻淋上鄉村旋律，一再再襲入的搖滾聲波，完全無法掩蓋Jeff此刻嗓音發輝淋漓盡致的演出，「Walken」無論在人聲與樂器搭腔上，均展現過人功力且上乘優秀音場結合。Wilco從來不需要華麗綴飾加諸於身，頻頻展露地質樸自然聲感，如同晨間呼吸到清新空氣般舒爽。

UNKLE is back with a third album, War Stories, which finds James Lavelle teaming up with Richard File for a second time. War Stories' guest vocalists include Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Ian Astbury (The Cult), 3D (Massive Attack), The Duke Spirit, Autolux and Gavin Clark (Clay Hill). James makes his vocal debut on War Stories, singing on Hold My Hand as well as dueting with Richard on Morning Rage.
