在2008年底，個人第二張專輯《Nocturnal》將於日本當紅獨立電子廠牌Schole發行之際，馬來西亞獨立電音創作人flica （a.k.a. Euseng Seto）已開始準備第三張作品《Telepathy Dreams》。歷經八個月，從創作、製作混音乃至發行都一手包辦，這顯然是Flica頗為重視的一次嘗試，也確實是其音樂性更加嚴肅成熟的表現。招牌的鋼琴、吉他等樂器主軸與微模結構的電音節奏搭配依舊漂亮流暢，卻成為較為陰暗情緒的載具。然而，正如同黑白照片可以冷調，也可以溫暖，flica的明亮音色中飄浮著憂鬱，沉靜的氛圍蘊含著激情，觸動了夢的意識，在靈魂的層次有了連結。

曾於涼音堂發行作品的日本音樂人Fjordne，在新加坡Kitchen推出的第四張個人專輯，名稱與靈感源自日本作家太宰治1947年小說《斜陽》，以獨到旋律與不和諧聲音的運用，透過多種樂器的原音重奏再現文字的內省與田園抒情。包裝為Kitchen特製的6頁對摺手風琴式相片封套。


"THE SETTING SUN" is FJORDNE's 4th album since the succession of 3 albums released in 2008 by Ryoondo Tea (Japan), Dynamophone Records (US) and U-Cover (Belgium). Based in Tokyo, FJORDNE is also known as Shunichiro Fujimoto. In the winter of early 2009, FJORDNE worked on "THE SETTING SUN," inspired by the classic Japanese literature Shayo (1947) by Osamu Dazai, recreating through sound the introspection and pastoral lyricism of Dazai’s language. "THE SETTING SUN" underlines his mastery of melody and dissonance through an ensemble of acoustic instruments such as piano, guitars and strings embodied in layers of dense sonic textures and disorder, transforming his sounds into a new time span.


Packaged in Kitchen's customized 6 fold accordion photo album, the essence of "THE SETTING SUN"  is made visible by artwork provided by April Lee (one half of aspidistrafly and artist for Kitchen). Employing the progression and pause of time, the flow of the images gently echo FJORDNE's interpretation to reveal this carefully hidden world.

U.S. pressing of the 2009 release from the Electronica duo includes two bonus tracks. Fischerspooner are one of the most respected and successful crossover acts of the Electro renaissance. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider pop shows bursting with stage effects in both art galleries and traditional concert halls. Recorded over a two-year period with producer Jeff Saltzman, the music marks a further maturation of the group's sound. Written and recorded in a carriage house in Brooklyn, the album's special guests include actress/performance artist Ann Magnuson, UK musician Gabriel Olegovich, and legendary electronic collagist Steven Stein.

Au Revoir Simone是來自紐約的三人全鍵盤樂隊，三個來自紐約布魯克林的年輕長髮女子：Heather D’Angelo (主唱/鍵盤樂器/打擊樂器)Erika Forster (主唱/鍵盤樂器/)Annie Hart (主唱/鍵盤樂器/)，彷彿是從蘇菲亞哥布拉電影《Virgin Suicides》走出來的脫俗女子，音樂以清新可愛的電子鍵盤為基礎，點綴地加些女孩甜蜜可口的人聲，不過，有時可愛甜蜜的女聲也會變的昏暗低沉．．．難怪連agnes b.也對她們讚不絕口，這張《Still Night, Still Light》是她們2009年的最新專輯。

aspidistrafly是由新加坡的April Lee與Ricks Ang所組成，著迷於日常生活的轉瞬時刻與美感，作品混合視覺藝術、設計、聲音設計與音樂，2004出版首張ep《The Ghost of Things》大獲好評，被譽為2004年新加坡最佳獨立發行。2007年參與多張不同廠牌發起的合輯，並有機會在日本、新加坡與馬來西亞作現場演出。

 

今年他們終於出版了首張正式專輯《i hold a wish for you》，取材自日常生活的所思所感，九首歌曲融合樂器演奏、溫暖人聲呢喃與柔和聲響採樣。從純粹抒情的〝On the Summer Solstice〞、有著濃密多層次音景的〝花火〞再到即興寫意的〝common colors in the air〞，他們全心全意打造出一張滿載追憶與情感，卻跳脫文字，純粹以深思熟慮的聲音設計營造出獨特氛圍的專輯，《i hold a wish for you》無疑在動人旋律與實驗聲響間找到個人化的絕佳平衡。而他們的好朋友，日本新生代著名音樂人haruka nakamura也特別為他們的〝Endless Dreamless〞作了一個原音版編曲，其實他們早前已經在nakamura的個人專輯《grace》中有客串過，這回算是禮尚往來吧。


最後必須提一下這張專輯的包裝設計，身為設計人的他們感覺特別用心，利用訂製的6頁對摺手風琴式相片封套，April Lee與另一藝術家Rika M.的照片將音樂的整體氛圍加以視覺化，每張專輯更加上特別編號，《i hold a wish for you》每個細節都盡見aspidistrafly對他們心血結晶有多麼的重視！

Hammadi comprises a selection of sexy, sophisticated musical gems: "Melodies" by Joseph Malik gives life to the mix while the East West Connection & Terry Callier's track, "Tomorrow in Your Eyes," and Troublemakers "Get Misunderstood" bring the Park Hyatt Tokyo to life. A duet by Japan's Silent Poets (Michiharu Shimoda and Takahiro Haruno) on "Come Raising," remixed by Tom and Joyce, is a familiar title being discovered all over again.

Diary Of An Afro Warrior is the second full-length release from Benga, a UK-based artist who is along with Burial probably one of the fastest-rising names in dubstep. His Night 12" was apparently the first of its genre to be played on BBC Radio 1, and his style is both varied and at times quite accessible. He's had work on a variety of compilations, including the recent Mary Anne Hobbs' Warrior Dubz last year, but his craft has obviously grown even since that time.

The British Expeditionary Force bring to mind the sweet Scandinavian sounds of Efterklang or Mum. This is pop music, reframed and re-imagined as electronica, and taking influence from the muddy mire of indie music on the way, so it's not hard to work out that the two members of the band are old hands at production. In the red corner we have Justin Lockey, founder member of Mycodenameis:Milo and producer of such beastly projects as Enter Shikari among other things, and in the blue corner vocalist Aid Burrows, better known as the frontman of Fierce Panda band My Architects.


The music featured on 'Chapter One : A Long Way From Home' is the most unusual to ever come from this camp. It's indie music for people who want a little more for their money, pop music for people getting bored with pop or electronica for those of you who don't mind some vocals slapped about over the glitches and pads, and somehow it works. While the record isn't totally successful it leaves you with a warm glow, perfect for this time of year I'd say...(Boomkat.com)

QUIET VILLAGE step out of the shadows to present their much anticipated debut album, 'Silent Movie'. Comprised of master crate-digger JOEL MARTIN and rising dance-music star MATT EDWARDS (a man of many monikers including RADIO SLAVE & REKID), and borrowing their name from MARTIN DENNY's exotica masterpiece, Quiet Village make the old sound new (and vice versa). Influenced by Italian film soundtracks, library music, disco edits, acid rock and vintage soul, they mix the unlikeliest elements - bluesy guitar, chamber strings, air-raid sirens, shuffling breakbeats, even flutes and seagull cries - into an hour-long, beautiful reverie. Fuck Buttons was conceived by Andrew Hung & Benjamin John Power in the winter of 2004.

Initially the group was born as an outlet for their nihilistic-noise tendencies but quickly, the two Fuck Buttons realised they could harness the use of noise as a tool to immerse and evoke. No longer afraid of melody or rhythm, the group started fusing all these elements to the point when drone becomes melody becomes rhythm.

With their electric live performances sealing the notion that the two Fuck Buttons are attempting some kind of transcendence between the listener and the Universe itself, one could easily envisage one psyches being shaken by the very rumbles of the earth motions.

Tribal beats and subtle beautiful melodies weave amongst contorting Technicolor drone-scapes while preaching distorted-vocals scream for dear hope herself?

An amazing second full length set from Quasimode -- easily one of the most soulful combos working in the current club jazz underground! Quasimode cover some of the same territory as their Japanese contemporaries Sleepwalker -- an older style of soul jazz -- played live, mostly with acoustic instrumentation -- in ways the hearken back to the best older work on labels like Impulse, Strata East, and Black Jazz. They've got a great sense of focus and drive -- really pushing their tunes with a sense of energy that most regular jazzmen these days can hardly touch -- yet also doing so in a way that always swings strongly, with the kind of jazz dance rhythms that first sent international collectors digging for soul jazz sides a few decades back! This time around, they've got some wonderful help from Carmen Lundy on two tracks -- bringing in vocals that recall the best work on her own albums from a decade or two ago -- and other guests on the album include Mika Arisaka on vocals and Masato Nakamura from Sleepwalker on tenor sax. Titles include "Raw Cotton Field", "Over The Horizon", "Dark Beauty", "Percussion Revolver", "Last Nine Days", "For Self Defense", "Time Is Love", "The Man From Nagpur", and "Object In The Mirror".  

Compiled and mixed by Dego, this new Sonar Kollektiv compilation follows on from previous instalments in the Mixing series from Jazzanova and Ame. This disc serves as a map of 4Hero's formative influences, incorporating old funk, reggae and disco classics, while always keeping one foot firmly planted in the now, featuring more contemporary cuts from Dabrye, Waajeed and Georgia Anne Muldrow. After opening on Bootsy Collins, it's not long before Dego finds his way to segueing from J Dilla into Raymond Scott - not a manoeuvre you'd hear often, but it's a splendid connection to make nonetheless.


As the mix enters its second half we shift from Scientist into The Skatelites, then onto Patrice Rushen's grandiose disco anthem 'Message In The Music', all carried off with an incredibly fluid aplomb. Clocking in at a conservative forty-two minutes or so, this is a good deal more concise than your average mix CD, but it manages to cover an awful lot of ground while never feeling overstuffed, and that is most certainly an admirable quality.
