英國曼徹斯特大學的同學James Ford與Jas Shaw，一個主修生物學，一個主修哲學，這兩個同學沒事就愛在學校宿舍搞一些怪里怪氣的電音派對，兩人跟深受民謠音樂啟發的創作型歌手Simon Lord與彈貝斯的Alex MacNaughten在2000年的時候，跟隨著當時由Broadcast、The Beta Band等樂團所帶起的一種結合傳統搖滾歌曲創作與電音節奏的潮流風格，組了一個名叫Simian的電子搖滾樂團，由於James與Jas不喜歡他們好像是在一支搖滾樂團中負責節奏操盤的感覺，Simian在2005年宣告拆夥，兩人另組了Simian Mobile Disco(以下簡稱S.M.D.)樂團，隨後在2007年以榮獲Q、All Music Guide等傳媒4星好評的電音大碟『Attack Decay Sustain Release』揚眉吐氣，兩人在首張專輯打響名號後，瞬間成了Bjork、Muse、Arctic Monkeys、Peaches、Klaxons、Little Boots等藝人/樂團爭相邀請擔任單曲混音或專輯製作的大忙人，2009年夏季，S.M.D.樂團將以專輯【Temporary Pleasure】掀起另一波的電音熱浪。


在【Temporary Pleasure】專輯中，S.M.D.邀請了許多當紅樂團的團員一起參與電音搖滾大冒險，像是以「中東迷幻音樂與福音音樂強碰之後的音樂風格」自居的紐約團Yeasayer主唱Chris Keating，應邀為techno pop作品"Audacity Of Huge"獻聲助威；前威爾斯搖滾名團Super Furry Animals靈魂人物Gruff Rhys為節奏鮮跳的電子流行樂作品"Cream Dream"灌注了深具對比色彩的冷色調歌聲；來自美國華盛頓州的龐克/舞曲組合The Gossip的風雲女聲Beth Ditto，為電子藍調曲風的"Cruel Intensions"帶來了酷酷的聽覺。助陣歌手還包括了英國電子團Hot Chip主唱Alexis Taylor，布魯克林的實驗電子樂雙人女生團Telepathe，曾經與Feist合作過，來自柏林的都會靈魂歌手Jamie Lidell。

曾於涼音堂發行作品的日本音樂人Fjordne，在新加坡Kitchen推出的第四張個人專輯，名稱與靈感源自日本作家太宰治1947年小說《斜陽》，以獨到旋律與不和諧聲音的運用，透過多種樂器的原音重奏再現文字的內省與田園抒情。包裝為Kitchen特製的6頁對摺手風琴式相片封套。


"THE SETTING SUN" is FJORDNE's 4th album since the succession of 3 albums released in 2008 by Ryoondo Tea (Japan), Dynamophone Records (US) and U-Cover (Belgium). Based in Tokyo, FJORDNE is also known as Shunichiro Fujimoto. In the winter of early 2009, FJORDNE worked on "THE SETTING SUN," inspired by the classic Japanese literature Shayo (1947) by Osamu Dazai, recreating through sound the introspection and pastoral lyricism of Dazai’s language. "THE SETTING SUN" underlines his mastery of melody and dissonance through an ensemble of acoustic instruments such as piano, guitars and strings embodied in layers of dense sonic textures and disorder, transforming his sounds into a new time span.


Packaged in Kitchen's customized 6 fold accordion photo album, the essence of "THE SETTING SUN"  is made visible by artwork provided by April Lee (one half of aspidistrafly and artist for Kitchen). Employing the progression and pause of time, the flow of the images gently echo FJORDNE's interpretation to reveal this carefully hidden world.

MACHINE DREAMS / little dragon




LITTLE DRAGON Machine Dreams (2009 UK 11-track CD album - A bold and surprising side/two step onwards from their self titled debut, 'Machine Dreams', with its nagging hooks and gloriously infectious tunes, sees Little Dragon return with a pulsating electro pop epic that Prince would be proud of [only fronted by a beautiful Swedish lady with a sultry voice]. Recorded in their home city of Gothenburg, 'Machine Dreams' is a gigantic leap on from previous material but still maintains a distinct sound that can only be Little Dragon. Album opener 'A New' breaks us in gently with a single whirring note on the synthesiser, an almost alien sound that gradually morphs into a slow, thumping bassline. Whilst the single, 'Feather', finds Yukimi's voice at its most detached and blaze, seemingly nonchalant yet magnificently seductive. With additional highlights such as 'Runabout', 'Swimming' and 'Blinking Pigs', the album closes with the stunning 'Fortune', which, with its smattering of drums and bass and the magic of Yukimi's voice and Hakan's electronic dynamics floating on top, is the perfect track to end this fascinating journey through Little Dragon's brave new world!).

美妙旋律、溫暖音色，一點點的遊戲人間與人聲搭配，還有恰到好處的踢腦techno元素，讓英國的The Boats聽起來令人想起底特律與柏林電子餘韻，卻同時不經意多了幾分shoegazing況味


Release description:

As the saying goes, a change is as good as a rest. Never the band to rest on their illustrious laurels, or to misinterpret tradition, The Boats deliver a surprise in the form of ‘Words Are Something Else’.


Taking their influence from myriad places has always been a subtle hint toward the Boats current psyche, and using the words deep, and techno, while alluding to their new album is a new, if not slightly fashionable (and disconcerting to tradition) statement. The Boats, fashionable, in the same sentence? Well, not really, but the 4/4 underpinning, and synthesis of almost an ‘acid’ character of most of the album is definitely a new facet of the rough diamond that they’ve shaped over their career.


Speaking of shaping, the ease with which Chris Stewart’s voice is carved alongside the techno sensibilities makes it sound like he should always have been there. Songs like ‘Raindrops (Second)’ hold an almost Beatles-esque vocal harmony scattered and yet held in place by the insistent kick drum, and deft edits that keep the future firmly in mind, while paying homage to the past.

英國聲音藝術家Christopher Hipgrave首張個人專輯，以細緻含蓄的聲音表達手法，將日常自然聲響幻化成一首首有意味的樂詩，讓人感受大自然的靜穆與神秘。



Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. once spoke of nature as needing to be held close to humanity, to be a friend, instead of an enemy. ‘Day’, by Christopher Hipgrave, who is a composer, sound designer, and software programmer from England, presents the harmony of the humanity and closeness to nature, while still allowing the time of the day to pass hardly without notice, but with change and closeness.


panning 7 tracks, and 44 minutes, the simply descriptive titles of ‘Day’ transcend a controlled majesty over the evolving everyday. The times of the day are present, relative to structures of the surrounding world. All found in place: Flowers’ petals opening through an extended time-lapse, the trickle of water drops from rubber plants to the ground, the bending of grass blades shifting like razors, with only the temporal echo of the evening warming the last remaining seconds are present.

U.S. pressing of the 2009 release from the Electronica duo includes two bonus tracks. Fischerspooner are one of the most respected and successful crossover acts of the Electro renaissance. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider pop shows bursting with stage effects in both art galleries and traditional concert halls. Recorded over a two-year period with producer Jeff Saltzman, the music marks a further maturation of the group's sound. Written and recorded in a carriage house in Brooklyn, the album's special guests include actress/performance artist Ann Magnuson, UK musician Gabriel Olegovich, and legendary electronic collagist Steven Stein.

DEAD DRUNK / terrestrial tones



Brooklyn ’s Terrestrial Tones is the roommate duo of Eric Copeland (Black Dice) and Dave Portner (The Animal Collective). Over the years the two have been quietly making music in between Animal Collective and Black Dice commitments. Recorded in their apartment while living in Paris last summer, Terrestrial Tones’ third record "Dead Drunk" sounds like the duo spent a bit too much time in the Parisian flea markets. African food stands, forgotten European pop records, discarded American analog pedals and junk, old Soviet electronics, they all come together into something highly disconcerting, curiously pleasurable, and beyond new.
