Winter & Winter的聲音電影系列，最近出版了《Escenas de la Ciudad》（Scenes in the City），是一張關於阿根廷布宜諾斯艾利斯，也是關於阿根廷傳奇吉他大師Aníbal Arias的專輯。07年才過完85歲生日的他，08年聯同老中青搭檔，還有新進女歌手Lidia Borda，一同來到一間前教堂老建築（上世紀曾經變成監獄，現在是博物館）的天井，錄下這張聲音效果特佳的專輯。不管是獨奏、二重奏又或者四重奏加演唱，Aníbal Arias皆展演爐火純青的表現，不愧被稱為布宜諾斯艾利斯的 body and soul。

這是W&W為慶祝阿根廷知名實驗作曲家莫里西歐卡格爾Mauricio Kagel 75歲生日所發行的限量特別版2CD+1DVD，收錄他在六七０年代在德國科隆與WDR合作的一些重要影片與電台作品，卡格爾的創作從音樂、電影、佈景設計、劇場到文學，其影響力一直延續至今，並獲Ernst von Siemens Music Prize的肯定。去年九月不幸於德國逝世，享年76歲。

卡格爾1931年出生於布宜諾斯艾利斯，自學作曲，同時也研習哲學與文學，並跨足電影與劇場。曾提出「音樂劇場論」的他，會在演奏中加入戲劇成分，矛盾、分裂與嘲諷等具破壞力的元素，電影和劇場裡邪惡古怪般的原創性讓人稱他為「音樂界的達達主義者」。1957年移居德國，擔任柯隆室內歌劇院指揮、柏林電影與電視學院院長，在德國作曲家史托克豪森之後接任當代作曲最高機構「西德國家廣播電台電子音樂錄音室」。

在這套特別版當中，CD1稱為 "Kagel plays and sings"，為突出他作為一名演奏者，裡面收錄他著名的»Tango Alemán«、»Pandorasbox«與 »Bestiarium«。CD2則是他著名的»(Hörspiel) Ein Aufnahmezustand«，盡顯他對錄音藝術的見解。為了這次發行，所有錄音皆經由卡格爾親自重新處理。而DVD部份，則收錄他於69年拍攝有關貝多芬的超現實影片»Ludwig van«，裡面充滿他獨有的幽默、諷刺與尖銳。此外，專輯附有多達六十頁的文本、照片、繪圖與手稿等，還有影片的筆記與現場拍攝時的照片等，更添收藏價值。

曾跟隨Uri Caine來澳演出的美國天才爵士樂鼓手Jim Black，本身也是出色的樂隊領導人，他與次中音薩克斯風手Chris Speed、吉他手Hilmar Jensson跟貝斯手Skúli Sverrisson 共同組成的AlaxNoAxis，像是一隊著重旋律的唱作人樂隊，卻沒有人唱歌，換來的是大量的失真效果與電子聲響，還有充滿能量的爵士即興互動。AlaxNoAxis一向喜歡混合即興、搖滾、爵士甚至黑金屬，重組又解構，卻在這張最新專輯《Houseplant》中擺脫衝突破格，反而呈現難得的和諧之美，在不同曲式間尋求最佳的共存之道，可說透過音樂對這個時代的混沌與瘋狂給與最酷的表達，就像封面奈良美智所繒的大頭娃娃一樣。

來自荷蘭那爾鄧 (Naarden)的Ernst Reijseger是一位非常特別的大提琴演奏家，將大提琴當成自己的嗓音，在前衛與古典、即興與作曲之間找到絕佳平衡點，不管是歐陸即興、古典室內樂、西非音樂、探戈或中亞音樂皆得心應手，對他而言，音樂就是音樂，沒有界限。

這樣子難以歸類的音樂人與同樣特立獨行的音樂廠牌Winter & Winter合作可說最自然不過，而且一下子就超過十年之久，其間W&W給與足夠空間讓Reijseger嘗試不同的音樂實驗，當中包括為德國著名電影導演荷素所作的配樂，而其別具魅力的獨奏表演讓他有機會遊走世界各地，尤其針對演出場地的氛圍引發出迥異卻精煉的樂章，為聽者帶來充滿空間感的聆聽經驗。

《Tell Me Everything》是Reijseger的最新大提琴獨奏作品集，收錄他在意大利塔斯卡尼一葡萄酒園隱居時的演奏，當地一家棄置教堂絕佳的環境氣氛讓他的音樂得到前所未有的抒發，他每天選擇清晨或深夜進行演奏，最後出來的旋律深邃而動人，與那些突如其來的節奏撞擊與狂野聲音即興噪音匯聚成一幅幅抽象“音景”。專輯內不管是充滿鳥嗚的“Bidderosa”、Reijseger演繹另一大提琴家Tristan Honsinger作品“Tristan's Tune”、日籍鋼琴家／作曲家Fumio Yasuda特別為他譜寫的“Song of Nenna”，或者為鯨魚而作的"Moby's Night Out"，無不展示他多元而內省的音樂感性。《Tell Me Everything》絕對是一張適合晚上聆聽的專輯，透過Reijseger的樂音，眼前彷彿看見色彩豐富的光點從黑暗中浮現，與德國畫家Jerry Zeniuk特地為這張專輯創作的封面畫作互相呼應。（nosna）

Ernst Reijseger, along with Mola Sylla and Serigne C.M. Gueye, pulled off what is almost impossible; they recorded an outstanding, unforgettable live performance and made it into a new and exciting home listening experience. The trio made its first appearance in Lormont, near Bordeaux, as part of the concert series "Musique de Nuit invite Winter & Winter". There, the three musicians met in a small theatre to elaborate their musical tales.

The trio creates those rare moments of nail-biting tension and irritating beauty which are charged with profound emotion. Ernst Reijseger, Mola Sylla and C.M. Gueye offer us more than the usual folklore. They belong to the seventh generation, which can finally talk about what the white man brought upon the black man.

CUADERNOS DE MEXICO / v.a.

Most outsiders are familiar with only one or two styles of music from Mexico, usually mariachi music (son performed by entertainment-oriented groups dressed in ornate matching uniforms) or norteño (ten-gallon-hat country music from the North), depending on how close they may live to the border. But Mexican folk music exists in many forms, localized to specific regions with their own particular instruments and influences. Like any true folk music, it's music of the people by and for the people, and it can offer a dramatic window into culture.

Producer Stefan Winter, whose record label is usually devoted to experimental composed and improvised music (of which the meatiest core is jazz), has on more than one occasion tapped into alternative musics from outside familiar territory. The five-disc Cuadernos de la Habana ("Notebooks of Havana," Winter & Winter, 1999) took the form of a colorful notebook documenting Cuban music at its folk roots. Consider the three-disc "audio film" (the producer's words) Cuadernos de Mexico a sequel of sorts, devoted to the music of Mexico's southern heartland extending south from Mexico City through the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca. It comes in a beautiful cardboard case with a 60-page booklet of photos, art, and documentation.

WAGNER E VENEZIA / uri caine ensemble

Uri Caine, like many other jazz players, has a fairly solid background in classical music. Unlike many jazz players, he has found a way to successfully work in the classical repertoire while using improvisation and love of a variety of musical styles he came by as a jazz player. To that end, Caine has released a handful of stunningly original albums covering the music of Mahler, Schumann, Bach, and Wagner. While Caine's critically acclaimed Mahler (Urlicht/Primal Light) and Bach (Goldberg Variations) discs have featured him, at times, radically reworking the material, this fine Wagner program finds the pianist sticking mostly to the original scores. And even though the occasional drum machine and DJ treatment heard on other discs are not present, Caine does include an accordion and double bass to the basic quartet of two violins, cello, and piano.

Recorded live in Venice at the Piazza San Marco, Wagner e Venezia takes in the overtures from Die Meistersinger, Lohengrin, and Tannhaüser, as well as the "Liebestod" from Tristan und Isolde. For the most part, the music moves at a lithe pace, matching the festive sounds of the crowd with exuberant and playful performances. Maybe not the right fit for classical purists, but certainly a fine offering for the adventurous listener.

PARANG – CARIBBEAN CHRISTMAS WITH THE LARA BROTHERS

Trinidad celebrates Christmas with Parang: A fascinating "Lime" (party) with traditional songs, rhythms and dances. "The Lara Brothers" are the pure ambassadors of Trinidad's Christmas culture.

Over sixty years ago the brothers Tito and Willie and several of their friends founded the group "The Lara Brothers", named after the maiden name of their mother, Lena Lara. Tito and Willie learned traditional Parang folk songs and music from their father Ignacio, who was born in Venezuela.

During Christmas time, from November through January 6th, "The Lara Brothers" celebrate the Parang tradition and move from house-to-house in the rural community – often joined by friends and neighbors to play, sing, dance, eat and drink. The lead singers Tito and Willie Lara tell stories in adulterated Spanish about the annunciation, nativity of Jesus Christ, Maria, the morning star, flight into Egypt and events of their daily life. Parang is associated with Christmas festivities. The host family greets the parranderos with drinks and food [pastelles, arepas, wild meat, roast pork, sorrel, rum and ginger beer]. And "The Lara Brothers" dedicate songs to the host and everybody plays and eats and drinks and dances until the next morning. All enjoy a great Christmas "Lime".

Carnival in Trinidad / Calypsonians, Steelpans and Blue Devils

千里達嘉年華，集合全球各地群眾參與的大型節慶。在每年節日倒數前，除了千奇百怪的遊行演出服飾外，也有多達數百名樂手在千里達的街頭及舞台進行演出，被邀請演出的樂手來自世界各地。而樂器方面，撥弦樂器Cuatro的旋律與節奏流露西班牙殖民時期的人文色彩，各樣敲擊樂器組合而成的熱烈節奏，包括可發出不同音頻的Steel Drum，打造濃烈的加勒比海洋氣氛。

在樂種方面，傳統的Kaiso為千里逹獨有的音樂類型，Kaiso源於西非，在千里達的英法殖民時期，由於當奴隸的原居民之間禁止談話，Kaiso 便造為一種傳播訊息的渠道，當中包括新聞及政治消息的交流。儘管千里達及多巴哥現今而成為獨立的島國，聆聽Kaiso可讓聽眾追溯千里達的歷史源流，發現南美音樂的多樣性，及殖民統治時期下培育出的多元文化。

The countdown to the carnival in Trinidad, one of the most sensual, boisterous, multi-facetted festivities in the world, already starts months before Jouvert, the official start – at four in the morning on Carnival Monday – of musical intoxication in Trinidad. Months earlier, new pieces of music are selected and orchestrated; even before Christmas, rehearsals for the steel orchestras with well over a hundred players have started outdoors in the panyards. So for months, the steeldrums ring out through the streets every evening, until midnight. Kaisonians, calypsonians and soca singers arrange their songs for Big or Soul of Calypso bands, and get ready for the big competitions (Panorama).

But string instruments also have their own tradition in Trinidad, alongside the steelpans. The cuatro is widespread, and learning to play this instrument is compulsory at some schools. Robert Muno is one of the masters on this little instrument with a big sound. The melodies and rhythms hark back to distant Spanish colonial times: these were the island's rulers before French slavery and British rule. The stock fighters are train-ing, and already having preliminary fights, so that the best in the country can be on show in the last days of the carnival. Stock fights arose in Trinidad after the liberation of the slaves, and the fights are a sign of re-won freedom.

The Midnight Robbers are writing the new short stories with which, wearing oversize masks, they will entertain people in the crazy days to come.

來自荷蘭的Ernst Reijseger，是一位非常特別的大提琴演奏家，永遠在前衛與古典、即興與作曲之間找到絕佳平衡點，利用大提琴探索音樂的無限可能，不管是歐陸即興、古典室內樂、西非音樂、探戈或中亞音樂皆得心應手，對他而言，音樂就是音樂，沒有界限。

最新專輯《Do you still》，是他與Larissa Groeneveld、Frank van de Laar組成的三重奏，兩位大提琴手加上一位鋼琴手的奇異組合，裡面盛載著飽滿卻多樣的情感，有好奇、有內省也有自嘲。裡面收錄了十三首Reijseger自己創作的曲子，包括他為荷索另一部電影《Rescue Dawn》所寫的兩首配樂，還特別收錄由Martin Koeman（荷蘭1960-70s著名足球員，即朗奴高文的父親）所寫的兩首曲子，我終於明白Reijseger為什麼會把自己在這張專輯中的角色，比喻為足球場上的“自由人”(libero)了。

獲獎無數的德國新音樂品牌：Winter & Winter GmbH

縱使音樂光碟銷售大幅下降已經路人皆知，但仍然有音樂品牌不打算提供網路下載，光碟出版走精緻貴價路線，品味獨特的音樂內容、另類破格的出版企劃，加上別出心裁的包裝設計，整體呈現背後統一的藝術理念，我想說的是德國音樂廠牌Winter & Winter，曾在澳門演出的Uri Caine大部分專輯即授權由他們出版。

如果對當代爵士樂有點了解的話，對Stefan Franz Winter的名字應該不會太陌生，早在成立W&W之前，他於1985年創立的爵士樂廠牌Jazz Music Today(JMT)，即為當時美國爵士樂圈帶來一股清新空氣，成績輝煌，卻因為種種原因被迫在1995年結束，本身是德國人的他，決定回到家鄉，與親兄弟攜手創立Winter & Winter，呈現更破格大膽的新派爵士樂，同時回歸歐陸當代音樂品味的獨特方向，並累積為數可觀的精彩錄音與影像內容。

W&W旗下目前分為五條出版線，「Music Edition」出版大量新派爵士、當代室內樂、民族或難以歸類的音樂，旗下音樂人有Uri Caine、Dave Douglas、Paul Motian、Mauricio Kagel與Ernest Reijseger等等；「Film Edition」都是一些另類影像作品，包括個人認為當代最重要音樂電影之一《Step Across The Border》即由他們出版DVD；「JMT Edition」則重新發行十年來JMT時期的一些優秀作品，「Audio Film」的概念很有趣，他們企劃了一系列不同情境下的“聲音電影”，從紐約爵士黃金時代的Tin Pan Alley、東方快車旅程到上海灘聲音風景等．．．；最後「Literatur Edition」則是一些德語有聲文學作品，包括著名電影導演荷索也參與其中。

At the nationwide ZDF television gala show "Echo der Stars" hosted by the actress Maria Furtwängler – granddaughter of the conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler – Uri Caine and his Ensemble perform the Turkish Rondo after Mozart. In other years artists like Sir Simon Rattle, Rolando Villazón, Cecilia Bartoli, Montserrat Caballé, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Vesselina Kasarova, José Carreras, Isaac Stern, Giora Feidman, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Anna Netrebko, Daniel Barenboim and Nigel Kennedy have been award winners.

In the last decade no other artist has influenced the development of the classical music and the jazz scene in such an important way as Uri Caine. His adaptions and re-compositions of classical works found enthusiastic acceptance worldwide. Uri Caine is celebrated for these eclectic and inventive interpretations. In recognition of this Uri Caine receives the "Echo Klassik". Winter & Winter took this wonderful occasion to produce a special album with the title Uri Caine "The Classical Variations" featuring previously unreleased music after Bach, Mahler and Verdi and already renowned recordings after Beethoven, Schumann, Mahler and Wagner.

George Kuo was born in 1955, but his beautiful slack key guitar style dates back a generation or two earlier. He is known as one of Hawaii's premiere Hawaiian slack key guitar artists playing the traditional "nahenahe" [sweet, soothing] style, bridging today's generation with the older generations: "I feel a lot of appreciation for the old style of slack key and the lifestyle of my grandparents, granduncles, grandaunts and all the older players. There is a special aloha for them that I try to convey in my style of slack key. [...] My feeling is in the older way of playing from the 1940s", George explains. "I like to play a nice relaxed, easy style. It is more delivering a message than playing runs. Not too much fancy stuff, keep it within the melody. Simplicity is really my style."

George Kuo learned to play slack key guitar from Antone Gabriel, whose style is influenced by the music of his granduncle Albert Kawelo, the teacher of the slack key legend Ray Kane who died on February 27, 2008. Ray Kane's style was distinctive and deceptively simple. He played in a number of ki ho'alu tunings always plucking or brushing the strings with only the thumb and index finger of his right hand. He also played hammer-ons and pull-offs in a unique way, his finger moving up and out, instead of down and in, after striking a string. Ray Kane emphasized that one must play and sing "from the heart". He never played flashy or fast. In Hawaiian, Ray Kane's sound is described as "nahenahe". George Kuo plays his slack key guitar and sings in the spirit of Ray Kane, but George Kuo pursues the old tradition with the knowledge that tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.

對Hank Roberts這位美國爵士大提琴手的最早印象，源於他與Bill Frisell、John Zorn、Mark Feldman、Joey Baron等，帶動八０年代新一波紐約下城音樂場域興起，許多他的作品收錄在爵士樂廠牌JMT中（即Jazz Music Today的縮寫，可視之為Winter & Winter的前身），旺盛的創作力更延伸出弦樂三重奏Arcado與樂團Miniature，在歐美日皆獲得樂評與樂迷的高度肯定。可是就在他的事業達到高峰時，卻為了家中小孩，決定放棄顛沛不定的音樂家生涯，離開紐約搬到伊薩卡(Ithaca)定居。直到2006年，隨著孩子長大，Roberts決定復出爵士樂圈，與法國吉他手Marc Ducret、美國鼓手Jim Black組成新班底巡迴歐洲，熱烈的反應也讓他重出江湖更添信心，而這張《Green》正是他們今年的最新成績單！

在Roberts的主導下，《Green》音樂呈現美國民謠、印第安舞曲、爵士和搖滾的有趣融合，三人在自由即興與作曲的平衡下營造出獨特的聲響世界，Roberts透過他的大提琴，撥、彈、輕叩或者拉弓，創造出複雜多層次的聲響，有時候還加上演唱，歌詞有來自美國印第安人的傳統民謠，也有反映當前森林危機的新創作等。Ducret黑色混沌的吉他聲響加上Black靈巧多變的鼓擊，讓音樂整體增加許多意想不到的層次與顏色，而最高潮的部分首推曲子“Lenape Suite, The Departing Hunter's Song/War Dance Song/ Jersey Devil” ，以印第安文化作為母題，電子聲響的加入與狂暴的器樂演奏，合演一場危機四伏，精彩萬分的音樂旅程，與接著充滿平靜美態的“Long Walk” 構成微妙對照。《Green》充分體現三位演奏家精湛的演奏功力、對音樂的深刻理解，還有彼此間密不可分的默契，讓樂迷隨著音樂的高低起伏與細微變化，共同透過耳朵感受Roberts帶給我們的不一樣綠色。

In 2006 cellist Hank Roberts, French guitarist Marc Ducret and American drummer Jim Black come together to make their first European tour. The audience is excited by their free improvisation and experimental music, and from this beginning, the new Hank Roberts Trio develops the programme »Green«. In 2007 the three musicians meet up for a week at an old warehouse just outside Munich that has been newly set up as a recording studio, to make their debut album for Winter & Winter. Alongside the excellent guitarist Marc Ducret and the sensitive drummer Jim Black, Roberts creates new sonic worlds, with stories to tell about American folk music and Indian dancing, as well as jazz and rock 'n' roll. Roberts, Ducret and Black play free improvisations, sound- and rhythm-compositions, and create a special sonic world of their own. There are new songs like "In the 60s", "Cola People" and "Trees", and "The Departing Song / War Dance / Jersey Devil" is newly adapted for this group. Robert sings during the fade-out of the recording of "Pictures", a homage to his mother. »Green« is a work created by three individual musicians who have a particular musical understanding and empathy with one another, and have realised this at the highest artistic level.

影片以美籍立陶宛實驗電影大師Jonas Mekas引用的「蝴蝶效應」理論揭開序幕，他說：「假始有一隻蝴蝶在中國振動翅膀，它的振動，即使再細微，也將對世界所有其它地方產生影響…」。

曾經以《遷徙–暫留》（Middle of the moment）一片和Fred Frith的音樂，在第四屆紀錄片雙年展中風靡無數觀眾的Nicolas Humbert與Werner Penzel，早在1990年的《邊境音暴》就選擇以兩年的時間跟隨英國即興吉他樂手、作曲家Fred Frith，橫跨日本、紐約、倫敦、萊比錫、蘇黎世等地去「尋找聲音」，一部優美的公路電影於是展開，美到讓觀眾永遠不想停止。Fred Frith的音樂向來以跨越類型、國界與無法歸類著稱，永不疲倦的好奇心讓他不斷地嘗試各種不同的音樂經驗。他的音樂直接了當地影響了本片導演對影像的處理。音樂、影像與創作思緒間此起彼落，展翅翱翔。從來沒有一部影片像《邊境音暴》能夠這樣自由，並且以愉悅的步伐暢談創作的苦澀，令人在美妙的樂音中神遊、感動、潸然落淚。

它不是一部傳記片，而是一部關於音樂、創作與人生觀的影片。三者緊密結合，無法分離，就像Fred Frith在一次影片放映結束後與觀眾對談時所說：「對即興創作來說，必需能夠將自己清空，不可以讓音樂去遷就既定的方向或結構。最重要的是要能夠接收到所有周遭發生的事物，並且接受它們。我每一次都是在面對不同音質、空間、觀眾的情況下表演」。

顛覆出軌的古典再現－URI CAINE

得知Uri Caine將在三月份帶同團員一同來澳演出，喜愛新派爵士的樂迷又有耳福了！這位當今爵士樂界的鋼琴鬼才兼作曲家，最讓人津津樂道的莫過於他一系列解構再註釋西方古典名家作品，從馬勒、華格納、舒曼、巴哈到貝多芬，他最新的挑戰對象是莫札特，也是這次音樂會的主題內容。

1956年生於美國費城的Uri，猶太裔的他父親是Temple University法學教授，母親是詩人，這樣子的家庭背景讓他有機會從小接受良好的音樂教育，高中期間，他跟隨法籍流亡鋼琴家Bernard Peiffer學習鋼琴，每星期Uri都會準備一份新的創作，在課堂上跟老師一起嘗試以不同方式重新解構其中的旋律、和絃與結構；但另一方面，因一次聆聽Miles Davis與John Coltrane音樂的經驗，令他開始愛上爵士樂，並從此一發不同收拾，他開始泡爵士樂俱樂部，費城豐富的爵士樂環境，甚至讓年紀輕輕的他即有機會跟Philly Joe Jones、Hank Mobley、Johnny Coles、與Grover Washington等一起演奏了。後來Uri進入了賓夕凡尼亞州州立大學跟隨作曲家George Rochberg學習作曲，但反而讓他更堅信校園外的爵士樂俱樂部才是心目中的學習殿堂，這段時間他有幸跟Freddie Hubbard、Clark Terry、Benny Golson、Donald Byrd、Phil Woods、Max Roach、Rashid Ali等一眾高手同台切磋，進一步奠定他日後成為職業演奏家的厚實基礎。

1992年他發表了首張個人專輯《Sphere Music》（JMT發行），不過解構對象不是西方古典作曲家，而是爵士鋼琴怪傑Thelonious Monk的音樂。而真正徹底奠定Uri在爵士樂壇重要地位的，莫過於1996年改編馬勒的作品《Primal Light》，他花了一年的時間深入研究馬勒的曲子與生平，然後來一次徹底的“解構”，有的是取原作的旋律主題、有得參照其結構、有的僅取馬勒的作曲概念，然後，他大量運用各類型音樂形式諸如爵士、拉丁、騷靈、猶太音樂、放克、森巴、自由爵士和當代古典等等去“重構”馬勒的音樂肌理，效果讓人拍案叫絕（當然也有不少人拍桌叫罵）。這部作品讓所有不論是古典、爵士、或流行音樂等樂評者跌破眼鏡，最後榮獲馬勒基金會於97年頒予年度最佳馬勒專輯的殊榮！

W&W 廠牌負責人 Stefan Winter 親到墨西哥，尋找當地傳奇女歌手 Concha Michel的生平資料與歌譜，這位當年與 Tina Modotti (1896-1942)、Diego Rivera 和 Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) 等建立深厚友誼的革命份子、女權歌手，音樂內容常離不開她的國家墨西哥、底層工人、農民與革命，但形式卻是單純而淨麗；與她的好友，著名墨西哥女攝影家 Tina Modotti 的的照片一樣，用藝術反映、描述與控訴墨西哥當時社會的不義與邪惡。Winter 邀請墨西哥著名音樂人 "El Negro" 、José Luis Santiago 與團體 Al Golpe del Guatimé，重新註釋 Concha Michel 多首歌曲，加上當地環境錄音溶入，“聲音電影”(Audio Film) 概念專輯的又一佳作。（專輯封面採用的正是Tina Modotti的著名攝影作品《Roses, Mexico》）更多介紹
