Centrifugal / Lars Moller Group

"Centrifugal" is Lars MOLLER's call for moving away from the center of tradition. His Garbarek-inspired romanticism may not be too shocking in Denmark or his Coltrane-inspired bebop solos may not be too shocking in America. However, the intelligent fusion of Garbarek and Coltrane styles will make a difference.

His Garbarek-like solos are largely lyrical and unearthly like in "North Atlantic Waltz" and even appearing dark in "Centrifugal". Yet, when he shifts to Coltrane-like bebop burning solos in "McFried" and "5577", you will almost forget that MOLLER is from Denmark.

MOLLER is, therefore, in essence an American European saxophonist whose mixing of European lyricism and American bebop has further called for more recognition to Nordic jazz. He is, in fact, pulling the Danish jazz audience away from their tradition towards the American jazz and pulling the American-influenced jazz audience from their tradition. The destination is - his unique Nordic-American jazz.

MOLLER's orientation towards Indian rhythm is also apparent in lining up Ole THEILL's omnipresent Indian tablas in harmony with Jaco CHRISTOFFERSEN's thoughtful piano and Thomas OVESEN's emotional bass.

"3 Rooms" is the centrifuge - Nordic American jazz with Indian rhythm.
