統治者與被統治者決定國家貧富

Mr Beattie,英國金融時報世界貿易編輯(the world-trade editor of the Financial Times)在新書"False Economy: A Surprising Economic History of the World."中表示,一國經濟發展與地理環境,宗教信仰,外族入侵(現代版:FDI)無關,決定國家貧富的主要關鍵在於該國的統治者與被統治者.
"the answer lies not in luck, nature, the strictures of this or that religion, or the plots of perfidious foreigners, but largely in the choices of rulers and ruled."
