I know, sounds wierd that you are taking shabu-shabu recommendations from a Canadian, but I was really impressed by this place when I made trips to Taiwan in both 2003 and 2005.

It's called 平和會館, (03)3571129 330桃園縣桃園市中正路878號

There is quite a bit of choice, and you can easily spend 1000 NTD, or as low as 200 NTD. The unique thing is the owner is also some coffee gourmet who roasts his own beans, kinda cool.

Now, I know it's kind of out of town, but check it out when you are there. Beware though, there are only 21 seats so either arrive really early or really late, or you might need to wait a bit.

平和 is about 10 mins walking distance from my place!
But, never been there :P heard it's quite good though.

乾脆把已回應瘋鳥的 copy 過來：

日暮里沾醬汁有水準，吃牛肉時可另向店家要芝麻沾醬。

比麵還好吃的是老闆娘自己來現做的雜炊粥，但是先決條件是要 keep 好一鍋未涮過肉(只下過海鮮)、無渣滓的湯底來煮粥。

二人通常一客牛小排、一客海鮮(當店選蚵、蛤蜊均佳)，另可單點各料如福州丸、豆腐皮等都不錯。另一秘密是：日暮里餐後咖啡水準甚高！
