第一天，根特

Gent/Ghent
經曼谷、Amsterdam轉機，來到Brussel。老爸的朋友情商一位開計程車的朋友來接我們。這位司機說，在比利時，不會說兩三種語言是找不到工作的。

下午Dr. Van Acker就來接我們了，我們都叫他Alexander。二十五年前，Alexander是老爸在英國St. George醫院的同事。老爸返台後，Alexander到香港開會時，也順道來彰化拜訪。後來失聯，直到去年Alexander在巴黎開會遇到另一位台灣的精神科醫師，才又再聯繫上。

Alexander來飯店接我們時，還說我以前有多小（我當然沒有記憶了）。下午他帶我們到他的故鄉根特（原文是Gent或是Ghent）走一走。這是個非常古老的城市，在11到13世紀，它是個僅次於巴黎的大城，也是大港。詳細介紹可以看這裡。

後來我才知道，比利時一直以來是個兵家必爭之地。從以前抵抗維京人(Vikings)，到後來抵抗法國、俄國……，Ghent城中的城堡、砲台，隱約訴說著比利時艱辛的獨立之路。
