Rundown of all the events from the memorial:
- Smokey Robinson came on stage at about 10:10 AM Pacific and read letters from Diana Ross and Nelson Mandella.
- A break stretched to about twenty minutes due to, from what we know, the transport of Jackson's casket. The family had a private memorial in the Hall of Liberty at Forrest Lawn Cemetery after which the casket had to be transported to the Staple's Center.
- The Andrea Crouch Singers opened the memorial in front of a large projection of a church window singing Going to See the King as the casket was brought in.
- Pastor Lucious Smith gave the opening statements.
- Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz performed I'll Be There, including a small part of Never Can Say Goodbye.
- Queen Latifah spoke of her memories of Jackson as a part of her life and read a poem specifically written by Maya Angelou, We Had You.
- Lionel Ritchie performed Jesus is Love.
- Berry Gordy spoke about the Jackson 5 audition and his amazement at Michael's performance, the weekly Jacksons vs. Gordys softball game and the fact that they were the only group to have their first four singles go to number one. He stated "All through sadd times and some questionable decisions, he accomplished all he set out to do." Gordy also said the King of Pop was not enough of a title. Jackson should be known as the Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived, a title that would be echoed throughout the memorial.
- Film montage of Jackson's career.
- Stevie Wonder performed Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer.
- Kobe Bryant talked about Jackson the humanitarian and referenced the fact that he has the Guinness record for the most charities supported by an entertainer.
- Magic Johnson spoke of his friendship with Jackie and the entire Jackson family and stated "the three children will have the most incredible Grandmother God ever put on this earth to take care of them."
- Jennifer Hudson performed Will You Be There.
The Reverend Al Sharpton talked about the journey of Jackson from Gary to today and his accomplishments, including breaking the video barrier, We Are the World and bringing all cultures together through sheer determination. He also told Jackson's children "There is nothing strange about your Daddy. It was strange what he had to deal with."
- John Mayer performed an instrumental version of Human Nature.
- Brooke Shields gave one of the most emotional speeches of the day, talking about her friendship with Jackson and how they both started so young ("I started at six months old, you started at five you slacker"). She also talked about his love of laughter and mischief and how his favorite song was Charlie Chaplin's Smile.
- Jermaine Jackson performed Smile.
- Martin Luther King III spoke of how Jackson challenged himself and everyone else to be the best they can.
- Bernice King talked of how Jackson used God's love to bring the world together in true brother and sisterhood.
- Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas spoke on how Jackson was the "Good Samaritan" and of Congressional Resolution 600 to honor Jackson as a great American and musical icon. Her strongest statement was the fact that as a congressperson and lawyer, "we understand the Constitution and we Understand the law and people are innocent until proven guilty."
- Usher performed Gone Too Soon.
- Video of Jackson performing Who's Lovin' You on the Ed Sullivan Show.
- Smokey Robinson spoke of how Jackson was always wise beyond his years and sang with such conviction. He stated one of the greatest blessings of his life was to know Jackson and his family.
- Shaheen Jafargholi, a young boy that Jackson had invited to perform with him in London, performed Who's Lovin' You.
- Kenny Ortega spoke about the creation of the Memorial and his thanks to all who participated.
- The cast of This is It, along with the rest of the participants, performed We Are the World and Heel the World.
- Thanks were given by Jermaine and Marlon Jackson. A short, tearful statement was then made by Jackson's daughter Paris.
- The casket was removed.
- Pastor Lucious Smith gave the closing statement.

As predicted, Michael Jackson is once again the King of the Pop charts.

Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, the entire top nine positions on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog Albums chart will house Jackson-related titles when the tally is released in the early morning on Wednesday (July 1). Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week ended at the close of business on Sunday (June 28) night.
Billboard's Full continuing Michael Jackson coverage, including video, charts and more.

Jackson himself has a record eight out of the top 10, while a Jackson 5 compilation also finds its way into the upper tier.

The King of Pop's "Number Ones" will fittingly lead the pack at No. 1 with 108,000 (an increase of 2,340%) while "The Essential Michael Jackson" and "Thriller" are in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively. Last week "Number Ones" was the only Jackson title on the chart, at No. 20 with 4,000 copies; both "Essential" and "Thriller" re-enter the tally this week.

Additionally, his classic 1979 studio set "Off the Wall" re-enters at No. 4 with 33,000 while his 1987 album "Bad" returns at No. 6 with 17,000. At No. 5, the Jackson 5's "The Ultimate Collection" debuts with 18,000. Jackson's fourth studio album for Epic Records, 1991's "Dangerous," re-enters at No. 7 with 14,000 while his 2001 compilation "Greatest Hits: HIStory -- Volume 1" also comes back to the list at No. 8 with 12,000. Finally, Jackson's 2004 box set "The Ultimate Collection" charts its first week on the Pop Catalog chart, arriving at No. 9 with 11,000.

The lone non-Jackson-related set in the top 10 is a reissue of the "Woodstock" movie soundtrack, which bows at No. 10 with 8,000.

Collectively, Jackson's solo albums sold 422,000 this past week. That's extraordinary, since his titles sold a combined 10,000 in the week that ended June 21. Of the 422,000 total, 57% were digital downloads.

Additionally, the 422,000 albums sold just last week is nearly 42% more than what Jackson's catalog had sold the the entire year up through June 21 (297,000).

Speaking of digital albums, on the Top Digital Albums chart, Jackson has a record six out of the top 10 slots, including the entire top four. "The Essential Michael Jackson" leads the Top Digital Albums list with 80,000 downloads sold, while "Thriller" is No. 2 with 57,000.

With the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." moving back to the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 chart with 88,000, this week marks the first time since Nielsen SoundScan began compiling data in 1991 that a catalog album has sold more than the No. 1 current set on the Billboard 200 albums chart. (All three of Jackson's top sellers on the Pop Catalog chart outsell "The E.N.D.")

Ironically, the feat almost occurred when Jackson re-issued "Thriller" in February 2008. The set relaunched with 166,000, re-entering at No. 1 on the Top Pop Catalog chart. That week, Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" led the Billboard 200 chart with 180,000 while Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" was at No. 2 with 115,000.

Catalog albums are ineligible to appear on the Billboard 200 albums chart, though they can chart on the all-encompassing Top Comprehensive Albums list. On the latter chart, Jackson's "Number Ones," "Essential" and "Thriller" are at Nos. 1-3, followed by the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." at No. 4.

Jackson places a record 25 songs on the 75-position Hot Digital Songs chart (21 solo hits and four with his siblings), smashing the mark of 14 charting titles established by David Cook in the June 7, 2008 issue. Jackson's Halloween radio staple, "Thriller," moves 167,000, which is good for second place on the chart behind the 203,000 shifted by the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling."

"Thriller" was also Jackson's best seller in the week before his death with 5,000 downloads, which translates to a 3,551% jump. Jackson's total volume of downloads this week -- including his tracks with the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons -- account for 2.6 million downloads, a remarkable number considering last week's cumulative sum was 48,000. Moreover, Jackson becomes the first act to sell more than 1 million song downloads in a week.

Besides "Thriller," Jackson places five other songs in the top 10 including "Man In The Mirror" (No. 3, 165,000), "Billie Jean" (No. 4, 158,000), "The Way You Make Me Feel" (No. 6, 136,000), "Beat It" (No. 7, 134,000) and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" (No. 8, 125,000).

Not surprisingly, each of the tracks in the top 10 of Hot Digital Songs were among the top 10 most-played Jackson selections at radio following his passing. According to research provided by Nielsen BDS of monitored airplay from over 1,600 terrestrial and satellite radio stations and cable music channels, "Billie Jean" was the Jackson track with the most spins for the week ending June 28 with 4,540 -- 97% of which occurred after news of his death became public. The track posted only 318 plays in the prior week.

Dear Soundboy,

MJ owned the publishing rights to the songs of the Beatles. The rights to the original recordings to the Beatles songs are still owned by EMI. Because of his financial troubles, MJ sold a part (if not all) of his ownership to those publishing rights.

Something that is not mentioned here is that MJ was abused by his father when he was a child. This is not news since it's a well-known fact. I am not using this as an excuse for what MJ did later during his adult life. However, given that MJ has been performing since age 5, I can only imagine the kind of life that he had. It may look good from the outside, but I think MJ may think otherwise.

Dear hsumolly﹐

You’re Not Alone

Dear maninov4u,

Dear

Dear Vaio,

One Day In Your Life 啦。

When I was a child in HK, I remember RTV showing the cartoon series based on The Jackson 5. I wouldn't say I am diehard fan of MJ, but I certainly respect his talent and determination to be the best. He deserve every word of his title, "The King of Pop". I think many people can only see MJ from the surface, whether it was his music or his private life, and I think that's very unfair. I hope MJ can now find the peace that he truly dserve....thank you for the music, RIP MJ.

By the way, I hope everyone listen to MJ's "Thriller" and "Off The Wall" album (the album that came before "Thriller")....these are true pop music masterpieces, not only in MJ's music but also from a production standpoint.

R.I.P.
