隨著英國有 Band Aid﹐美國也來一個USA For Africa。

本來是黑人歌手Harry Belafonte的主意﹐意欲由黑人樂手舉辦一個為非洲籌款的演唱會﹐但是藝人經理人Ken Kragen認為辦一個美國Band Aid會更為理想﹐於是他找來Lionel Ritchie﹐而Lionel 的妻子又與Steve Wonder的妻子商討﹐最後終於找來Quincy Jones任製作人﹐Michael Jackson與Lionel Ritchie合寫歌曲。音樂部份預先灌錄﹐然後於1985年1月28日當晚American Music Awards舉辦完畢﹐藉著群星雲集隨即進行演唱部份的錄音。

1985年3月7 日﹐80萬張單曲全面上市﹐一星期內迅速售馨﹐歌曲打入Billboard單曲榜第21名﹐隨後攀上冠軍位置並停留達3星期。此曲也得到該年Grammy Award 的 Song Of The Year 及 Record Of The Year。
