Art Garfunkel - Simply The Best

3079098653_ef246204a1.jpg

Art Garfunkel Simply The Best (1998/Columbia) Track List:
01 Bright Eyes
02 Break Away
03 I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)
04 Disney Girls
05 Miss You Nights
06 She Moved Through The Fair
07 Scissors Cut
08 Since I Don't Have You
09 Watermark
10 (What A) Wonderful World (with James Taylor / Paul Simon)
11 When A Man Loves A Woman
12 Looking For The Right One
13 I Only Have Eyes For You
14 Crying In The Rain (with James Taylor)
15 Another Lullaby
16 99 Miles From L.A.
17 A Heart In New York
18 Saturday Suit
19 Why Worry
20 Crying In My Sleep

(B. Gallagher / G. Lyle)

I watch the distant lights along the runway
Disappear into the evening sky.
Oh you know I'm with you on your journey,
Never could say goodbye.

It's not the sun you're trying to find
Something else is on your mind.
You need a little space and time to break away.
It's not the place you're going to,
It's just a phase you're going through.
Though I won't stop you, I don't want you to

Break away, fly across your ocean.
Break away, time has come for you.
Break away, fly across your ocean.
Break away, time has come...

For you to awaken in another country,
Greet the morning under foreign skies.
Leaving me to face another Monday,
It's not easy to get by...

It's not the sun you're trying find
Something else is on your mind.
You need a little space and time to break away.
It's not the place you're going to
It's just a phase you're going through.
Though I won't stop you, I don't want you to

Break away, fly across your ocean.
Break away, time has come for you.
Break away, fly across your ocean.
Break away, time has come for you
Break away, fly across your ocean.
Break away...

Since I Don't Have You﹕原收錄於 “Fate For Breakfast”(1979/Columbia) 專輯中﹐也曾在英美均作單曲發行﹐分別是第53及第38位。原唱為Skyliners (1958/Calico)﹐另一知名 Cover Version 為Guns N' Roses﹐收錄於“The Spaghetti Incident”(1993/Geffen) 專輯中。
(James Beaumont / Janet Vogel / John Taylor / Joseph Rock / Joseph Verscharen / Lennie Martin / Walter Lester)

I don't have plans and schemes
And I don't have hopes and dreams
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you

I don't have fond desires
And I don't have happy hours
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you

I don't have happiness
And I guess, I never will ever again
When you walked out on me
In walked on misery
And he's been here since then

I don't have love to share
And I don't have one who cares
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you

I don't have love to share
And I don't have one who cares
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you
You
You
You

(Jimmy Webb)

How delicate the tracery of her fine lines
Like the moonlight lacetops of the evening pines
Like a song half heard through a closed door
Like an old book when you cannot read the writing anymore

How innocent her visage as my child lover lies
Pressed against the rainswept windy windows of my eyes
Like an antique etching glass design
That somehow turned out wrong
I keep looking through old varnish
At my late lover's body
Caught on ancient canvas
And decaying...disappearing
Even as I sing this song

How secretly and silently my sorrow disappears
You can't see it with your eyes or hear it with your ears
It's like a Watermark that's never there and never really gone
I keep looking through old varnish
At my late lover's body
Caught on ancient canvas
And decaying...disappearing
Even as I sing this song
Even as I sing this song
Even as I sing this song

Crying in the Rain (with James Taylor)﹕原收錄於 “Up 'til Now”(1993/Columbia) 專輯中。原唱為Everly Brothers (1961/Warner)。
(C. King / H. Greenfield)

I'll never let you see
The way my broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
All my sorrow and pain
I'll do my crying in the rain

If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know that I still love you so
Though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain

Raindrops falling from heaven
Could never wash away my misery
But since we're not together
I'll wait for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see

Someday when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool
But till then, darling, you'll never see me complain
I'll do my craing in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain

99 Miles From L.A.﹕原收錄於 “Breakway”(1975/Columbia) 專輯中。
(H. David / A. Hammond)

Keeping my eyes on the road, I see you.
Keeping my hands on the wheel, I hold you.
99 Miles From L.A.,
I kiss you, I miss you, please be there.

Passing the white sandy beach, we're sailing.
Turning the radio on, we're dancing.
99 Miles From L.A.,
I want you, I need you, please be there.

The windshield is covered with rain, I'm cryin'.
Pressing my foot on the gas, I'm flyin'.
Counting the telephone poles, I phone you.
Reading the signs on the road, I write you.
99 Miles From L.A.,
We're laughing, we're loving, please be there.
Counting the telephone poles, I phone you.
Reading the signs on the road, I write you.
99 Miles From L.A.,
We're laughing, we're loving, please be there.

Why Worry (Edited Short Version)﹕原收錄於“Up 'til Now”(1993/Columbia) 專輯中﹐原唱為 Dire Straits﹐收錄於“Brothers In Arms”(1985/Warner) 專輯中。
(Mark Knopfler)

Baby, I see this world has made you sad,
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say.
But, baby, I'll wipe away those bitter tears.
I'll chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into gray.

Why worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So why worry, now?
Why worry, now?

Baby, when I get down I turn to you,
And you make sense of what I do
And, no, it isn't hard to say.
But, baby, just when this world
Seems mean and cold
Our love comes shining red and gold
And all the rest is by the way.

Why worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So why worry, now?
Why worry, now?
Why worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So why worry, now?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So why worry, now?
Why worry, now?
(Why worry? Why worry, now?)

Crying in My Sleep﹕原收錄於“Watermark”(1977/Columbia) 專輯中。
(Jimmy Webb)

I took a walk around the yard
I dug the flowers till it got too hard
Smoked my first pack of cigarettes today
Then I went down, down to Lucy’s old cafe
I put a half a case away
Took a sleeping pill and I tried to watch TV
But you know baby, the leading lady
Looked too much like you for the likes of me

And I woke up crying in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
And knocked the phone off the night stand
An the operator said "Can I help you please?"
And I said "No thanks baby, tonight there ain’t no help for me,
You know I just had a bad dream."
That’s all that’s wrong with me
You see I just had a bad dream.

Went out to loosen up the car
Somehow I wound up at the Rainbow Bar
I had a scotch and soda on the run
But I didn’t get too far.
I ran down some friends I used to know,
I dragged them out to see the show
I ran myself a bath and I tried to read your book
But you know baby, this time it just didn’t seem
Worth all the time it took

And I woke up crying in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
And knocked the phone off the night stand
An the operator said "Can I help you please?"
And I said "No thanks baby, tonight there ain’t no help for me,
You know I just had a bad dream."
That’s all that’s wrong with me
You see I just had a bad dream.

Why Worry

Dear

I Believe When I Fall in Love這首
Garfunkel

Dear

Hi Muzikland

Dear

Dear Muzikland,

For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her後,才認識這把靚聲是屬Art Garfunkei的....

組合拆夥後,他以個人姿態灌錄首張LP《Angel Clare》內的Travelling Boy(許冠傑曾作演譯並收錄於其首張個人LP《Morning After》內)、All I Know及容後的I Only Have Eyes For You、Bright Eyes等,這些雖然可說是帶着相類似風格及屬於他招牌唱腔的歌曲,都是至今我仍極愛中的一部份。

現實上,我擁有他的個人CD並不多,只有三張,《Angel Clare》、《Up 'Til Now》及當然少不了的《The Best Of Garfunkei》。

Dear macaenese5354,

Everything Waits to Be Noticed專輯才開始寫歌啊﹐會不會太晚了﹖
