Free As A Bird 單曲﹐其實是配合著一連串的 Beatles Anthology CD﹑VHS 及 LD 出版的歌曲﹐在 Beatles Anthology 1 已率先曝光了25年來第一首 Beatles全新歌曲﹐接續在Beatles Anthology 2﹐也有另一首新作 Real Love。

Real Love 本是由John Lennon 於1979年灌錄的Demo﹐1994年當Paul 跟 Yoko 談及Beatles 的合作計劃時﹐對方就交了4首John Lennon 的 Demo 給他﹐除了 Free As A Bird之外﹐還有Real Love﹑Grow Old With Me 及 Now and Then﹐於是Beatles Anthology 2 中就選用了 Real Love 作為再造Beatles 新曲﹐而監制也是 ELO 的 Jeff Lynne。不過因為此曲的Demo 已是比較完整﹐故此 Paul McCartney曾透露﹐在這首歌曲中﹐其他三位Beatles 成員其實只是為 John Lennon 伴奏而已﹐整體合作性不及Free As A Bird。這張單曲在英國於19956年3月4日出版﹐並登上流行榜第4位﹐至於美國則遲了一天發行﹐發上 Billboard第11位。

Real Love 的出版﹐引至 BBC 一台拒絕播放﹐他們認為Beatles 已太老了﹐不適合該台的年輕聽眾﹐事後 Paul McCartney 寫了一篇長達800字的信給英國 Daily Mirror 報紙作公開回應﹐但BBC卻否認了該指控。但這件事情卻傷害了George Harrison 再做Beatles 新歌的意慾﹐因為他們曾約定﹐若少了其中任何一人﹐就不會再繼續新歌計劃﹐於是本來計劃的第3首單曲 Now and Then 就胎死腹中了。
