1970年4月10日﹐Paul McCartney宣佈Beatles拆夥﹐之後他即率先在一個星期後推出個人專輯“McCartney”(1970/Apple)﹐這比 Beatles 最後一張專輯 Let It Be推出時間還要早。

Let It Be 專輯在英國於5月8日推出﹐於是美國方面獨力於5月11日發行了Beatles 最後一張全新歌曲Single - The Long & Winding Road。

The Long & Winding Road 由 Paul McCartney 所作﹐在他那Scotland 的農場寫成﹐當時Beatles 各人的關係已非常緊張﹐之後 Paul 就在1968年9月開始灌錄它﹐同期他們正埋首製作 The Beatles (White Album)。此曲也屬 Get Back Project 的一部份﹐可是最後這張 Let It Be 專輯﹐卻要由美國監制Phil Spector 完成﹐他同期也為 John Lennon 監制單曲“Instant Karma!”(1970/Apple)。然而他為 The Long & Winding Road 加入了弦樂及合唱團。

Long & Winding Road﹕此曲後來收錄於“Let It Be”(1970/Apple) 專輯中﹐到2004年﹐Paul McCartney 又為它發行了一個 Naked Version (2004/Apple)。

縱使此曲在Billboard 登上冠軍兩星期﹐此舉卻引起了 Paul McCartney 極度不滿﹐事實上在電影 Let It Be 之中﹐可見歌曲的原貌。2004年﹐Paul McCartney 發行了 Naked Version﹐回復其歌曲本貌。

同樣地﹐The Long & Winding Road 成為無數歌手翻唱的對象﹐直到21世紀﹐還有 George Michael 的 Cover Version。他的版本成為了“Freek!”(2002/Polydor) 單曲的 B Side。
