來自Beatles在英國的第21張單曲 Something ﹐意外地竟比美國遲了近3個多星期才發行﹐而這一次也是首次以 George Harrison 的歌曲作為 A Side 單曲。

一直以來 Harrison 在 Beatles 時期﹐創作量不多﹐或許 John 與 Paul 的光芒太耀眼了﹐George Harrison 也無發揮的餘地﹐也或許根本沒有練習寫歌的空間﹐但是接近 Beatles 的尾聲﹐George 也首次有 A Side發行。

1966年1月21日﹐George Harrison 與名模Pattie Boyd 結婚﹐有說 Something 就是為她而寫的﹐可是多年後 George 否認﹐他回應寫的時候是想寫一首由 Ray Charles 唱的歌﹐它於灌錄 The Beatles (White Album) 的時候寫成﹐當 Paul 在做 Overdubbing 時﹐George 就在鄰房彈鋼琴時寫了這首歌。Something 在英國於1969年10月31日與 Come Together 以雙A-Side 發行﹐得到流行榜第4位﹐至於美國則於10月6日發行﹐得到Billboard第3位。

Something﹕此曲後來收錄於“Abbey Road”(1969/Apple) 專輯中。

Something 起初交由 Joe Cocker 灌錄﹐收錄於“Joe Cocker!”(1969/A&M) 專輯中﹐然後 George Harrison 才取回來灌錄。

Something 由無數人翻唱﹐在70年代初另一流行版本是Shirley Bassey﹐當年在香港﹐她的Something MV 擁有極高播映率﹐可惜未能在網上找到這MV重溫。她的版本(1970/United Artists) 得到英國流行榜第4位。

除了 Ray Charles 之外﹐Something跟James Taylor 也有淵源﹐事實上此曲由 James Taylor的“Something In The Way She Moves”(1968/Apple) 引發﹐兩曲的首句歌詞是一樣的﹐當時 James Taylor 到英國發展﹐簽的唱片公司正是 Beatles 的 Apple。

Something 的 另一面 是 Come Together﹐由 John Lennon 創作及主唱﹐可是歌曲流行數年後﹐John 被告抄歌﹐John 的一句“Here come ol' flattop, he come groovin' up slowly”跟 Chuck Berry 的 You Can’t Catch Me 中一句“Here come up flattop, he was groovin' up with me”的旋律極為相似﹐於是 John 答應取用三首 Chuck Berry 的版權公司的歌曲灌錄唱片﹐後來他更乾脆灌錄了 You Can’t Catch Me (1975/Apple)。Come Together 在BBC遭受禁播﹐因為歌詞有 Coca Cola 案句﹐有賣廣告之嫌﹐不過此曲在美國成冠﹐在英國因為與Something 是Double A-Side﹐故跟 Something 一起取得第4位。

Come Together 在不同年代都有頗著名的翻唱版本。1978年在一套名為Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 的電影中﹐除了Bee Gees 大唱 Beatles 名曲之外﹐Aerosmith 也翻唱了 Come Together﹐是一首很不錯的 Cover Version。

Come Together - Aerosmith﹕原收錄於“Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”(1978/RSO) OST 中﹐但單曲由Aerosmith 所屬的Columbia發行﹐得到美國Billboard 第23位。

1982-1983年Michael Jackson與 Paul McCartney 合作了兩首單曲 The Girl Is Mine 及 Say Say Say﹐本來稱兄道弟的關係卻因 Michael 買下了版權公司 Nothern Songs 而反目﹐只因為這公司擁有許多 Beatles 歌曲版權﹐而Michael竟向 Paul 與 Yoko 索價4750萬作為轉售的代價。後來 Michael Jackson 在1988年電影Moonwalker中翻唱了 Come Together﹐之後又再度灌錄﹐收錄於“HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I,”(1995/Epic) 專輯中﹐不過Jackson + Beatles﹐感覺效果頗爛。
