1968年對於 Beatles 又是一個重要轉變的一年﹐宗教對於他們的音樂有重大影響﹐往後的歌曲尤其對 George Harrison 影響尤深。這一年Beatles 四子也額外出現了兩個重要女人﹐她們是Linda Louise Eastman及 Yoko Ono。

1968年3月15日﹐Parlophone 為Beatles 發行第17張單曲 Lady Madonna﹐3日後﹐Capitol 也在美國發行了這一張Single﹐不過往後Beatles的唱片就由 Apple 出版﹐EMI發行了。其實原本是以 Across The Universe 作為單曲的﹐不過最後臨時改變了計劃。

Lady Madonna 由 Paul McCartney 所寫﹐由於他翻閱 National Geographic 雜誌﹐看到一張非洲女人跟她的嬰孩的照片﹐旁邊寫著 Mountain Madonna﹐於是就觸發了這首創作。這歌的編曲很古老﹐其鋼琴Intro 意念取自Humphrey Lyttelton 的 Bad Penny Blues (1956/Parlophone)﹐而 Paul McCartney 也設法模仿 Fats Domino 的唱腔﹐這一年 Fats Domino 也翻唱了此曲 (1968/Reprise)。Lady Madonna在英國成冠兩星期﹐在美國則得到 Billboard 第4位。

Bad Penny Blues﹕是Humphrey Lyttelton 的單曲 (1956/Parlophone)﹐當年登上英國流行榜第19位。

Lady Madonna 的 B Side 是The Inner Light﹐由George Harrison 主唱﹐也是他的個人創作﹐更是首度成為單曲的作品。它的音樂部份在印度 Bombay 的 EMI Studio灌錄﹐這時 George 也剛好為1968年電影Wonderwall 配樂﹐這張Wonderwall Music OST (1968/Apple) 稍後於1968年11月由 Apple 出版。The Inner Light 在美國Billboard 取得第96位。
