當Beatles 於1966年8月29日﹐在San Francisco 舉行了最後一場售票的演唱會之後﹐他們就集中精神於唱片錄音﹐不再舉行演唱會﹐於是在Revolver 專輯灌錄完畢之後﹐還未滿夠7個月﹐他們就花了129日灌錄經典專輯“Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”﹐之後又準備電視電影“Magical Mystery Tour”的OST。

1967年8月24日﹐Beatles 跟印度宗教領袖Maharishi Mahesh Yogi 在倫敦見面﹐幾日之後他們又參加了在North Wales 的Bangor 舉行的週末啟蒙會議﹐可是這時他們也收到經理人 Brian Epstein 在家中﹐於8月27日過度服用藥物而逝世的吾訊。數天之後﹐Beatles四子在Paul 家中商討有關Magical Mystery Tour 事宜﹐於是9月1 日他們就同意繼續進行該 Project﹐並且於9月5日開始灌錄OST﹐於是當天就灌錄了 I Am Walrus﹐這也就是 Hello Goodbye單曲的 B Side。 不過當Magical Mystery Tour 於12月26日於BBC放映﹐卻換來惡評如潮﹐甚至本來計劃在美國 ABC電視台的計劃也遭取消。

Hello Goodbye 由 Paul McCartney 所寫﹐ John Lennon 曾表示非常討厭此曲﹐因為他本想由I Am Walrus 作為A Side﹐但是 Paul 與 George Martin均認為 Hello Goodbye 較商業化﹐比I Am Walrus更適合作 A Side 發行。Hello Goodbye 同樣拍了MV於美國 Ed Sullivan Show 播映﹐但是因為根據British Musicians’ Union 規定不能“咪嘴”之故﹐卻遭英國 BBC 禁播﹐。然而 Hello Goodbye 還是在英國取得7星期冠軍﹐在美國也得到Billboard 3星期冠軍。這單曲在英國於1967年11月24日出版﹐美國方面則遲了3天。
