Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane (1967)
60年代中期﹐Beatles 雖然站在事業上的頂峰﹐然而他們也換來更多的風風雨雨及是是非非。
1966年6月﹐Capitol 為他們在美國出版“Yesterday & Today”專輯﹐使用了血腥的嬰孩公仔碎屍照﹐即換來民眾的非議。7月時﹐在菲律賓登台時﹐沒料到受第一夫人Imelda 之邀﹐在皇宮中享用早餐﹐沒可是當經理人Brian Epstein 禮貌地謝絕之後﹐Beatles 差點兒回不了英國。另一方面﹐John Lennon 也感到 Beatles 受歡迎之餘﹐演唱會中除了樂迷的尖叫之外﹐不要說他們沒有真正聽到他們唱甚麼﹐基本連Beatles在台上也聽不到自己在唱甚麼﹑在玩甚麼。於是1966年8月29日San Francisco 成為了他們最後一場售票的演唱會﹐之後 Beatles即集中精神灌錄唱片﹐而他們的歌曲有更進一步的改變。
1967年2月17日﹐Parlophone 為 Beatles 出版第14張單曲﹐這是一張雙A Side 的Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane。至於美國方面﹐Capitol 更提早了4天出版。

Strawberry Fields Forever 由 John Lennon 所寫﹐當時他在西班牙拍電影 How I Won The War﹐跟太太Cynthia的婚姻也出現危機﹐他也常用 LSD。Strawberry Fields是位於Liverpool一所救世軍兒童中心﹐ John 幼時就是居住附近﹐並且時常在那裡玩耍。雖然當時已使用4 Tracks 來錄音﹐但是灌錄了幾個版本之後﹐John就要求唱片監制George Martin把兩個Version接駁在一起﹐這在當時實在是一個難題﹐因為兩個版本的Tempo 與 Key 都有差異﹐這個接駁位就是歌曲1分鐘之後。Strawberry Field Forever在英國只取得第2位﹐而美國方面﹐則得到 Billboard 第8位﹐它屬Psychedelic Rock的經典之作。

Beatles 中期之後的歌，很多動用大樂隊伴奏，例如Penny Lane，還出到管弦樂團，沒有了原來的四人Rock Band的味道，結他彈奏越來越少，Ringo的鼓幾乎聽不到！

第一次接触Strawberry Fields Forever 及Penny Lane时,就很自然的把这两首视为姐妹之作。
那歌名，给人的感觉不再是年少轻狂了。
可是借物暗喻，可能是思想上有太多刺激了。

其實自Yesterday之後, Beatles各成員的ego已開始萌芽, Paul 的We can work it out,Michelle, Eleanor Rigby,For no one, Here there and everywhere, Penny Lane,
John 的 Girl, In my life, Tomorrow never knows, Dr Robert等已充滿著個人的風格
George自Help!的You like me too much後,不斷有自己的作品. Revolver更以Taxman為頭track, Love you to, I want to tell you, Within you without you 等都是有別於John 和Paul 的作品,
如果不是各自朝著自己的方向進發, 我想現在不會有Let it be, Hey Jude, Here comes the sun, Something, Across the universe, A day in the life, I am the walrus, While my guitars gently weeps, Come together等經典名曲.

Dear Muzik,
Brian Epstein是在1967年8月27日逝世，是披頭的最後演唱會接近一年之後。還記得在學校的日子，每天早曾都要聽訓導主任講話，那天正是學期剛開始，他說彼頭四的經理人已死，彼頭四的音樂已不合潮流，也不值得大家去追隨及沉迷云云。而事實上，經過這麼多年後，彼頭的樂迷是有增無減，又豈是潮流的產物呢 !

對啊﹐嚴格來說許多歌曲都不算是 Rock Band 歌曲﹐不過卻因此發展出另一種音樂風格來﹐說起來他們有些歌曲在錄音室玩到出神入化﹐加上首先運用剪接效果與音效﹐致使許多歌曲都無法現場玩出來吧﹐這無疑也影響到後世製作唱片的方法。

許多人都愛把兩曲並列放在一起﹐George Martin 也曾表示這是一張極完美單曲的配搭﹐不過我卻是分開來欣賞﹐個人感覺﹐我更喜歡 Strawberry Fields Forever﹐這歌真的很特別﹐不過也有人說這是 LSD 效應而產生的歌曲﹐可能通過歌曲﹐這種 Unseen 的 LSD 也傳到我的腦海中吧。

明顯在這時期﹐ 大家都在明爭暗鬥吧﹐錢已有了﹐開始要注重自己的名氣﹐或者是人家對自己的才華有多少注目。翻過一些書﹐雖然歌曲都是寫 Lennon / McCartney﹐也但是早期與中後期的次序是不同的﹐在後來Paul 與 John不同的訪問中﹐大家也有爭拗某些歌曲中自己佔的創作有多少。
不過﹐說實在的﹐若 Beatles 沒有後期的精采歌曲﹐我相信他們的名字也沒有現在那麼經典。

這樣還好﹐因為當年有習慣﹐就算買回來的唱片也會錄在卡帶中﹐以減少損耗唱片﹐所以雖然現在唱盤壞了﹐我還可以有機會把卡帶找出來的﹐希望walkman 未壞吧。
