Ah, look at all the lonely people… 你看看那些寂寞的人﹐來自1966年Beatles 的一張Double -A Side單曲。

非常特別的一首歌曲﹐不單因為Eleanor Rigby的歌詞談及死亡與寂寞﹐更因為它只單單配上了 George Martin 的弦樂﹐其實談不上是一首樂隊的歌曲。這首歌的創作來自 Paul McCartney﹐Eleanor Rigby 的名字原是 Daisy Hawkins﹐後來他又想起電影Help的女演員Eleanor Bron﹐加上商店的名字Rigby 組合而成。歌詞裡的 Father McKenzie 本來是 Father McCartney﹐不過 Paul 不想得失父親故此作出改動。不過更有趣是創作碰上了事實﹐在80年代Liverpool 的St. Peter's Parish Church 就發現了一個Eleanor Rigby (1895-1939) 的墓﹐此後它成為了旅遊景點。Eleanor Rigby 得到3項Grammy Award 提名﹐最後由 Paul McCartney 榮獲1966年 Grammy for Best Contemporary Rock and Roll Vocal Performance, Male。

Eleanor Rigby 與 Yellow Submarine 於1966年8月5 日於英國出版﹐在美國則遲了3天。因為是雙A面單曲﹐故此兩曲同時得到英國流行榜4星期冠軍﹐至於美國方面﹐它得到 Billboard 第11位。估計因為受到 John Lennon 對 Beatles 比耶穌基督更受歡迎的言論影響﹐後來他在1966年8月11日的 Chicago 演唱會前夕﹐在記者招待會中公開道歉﹐不過它仍在美國賣了120萬張。

Eleanor Rigby 的 B Side 是Yellow Submarine﹐由 Ringo Starr 主唱。此曲加入了許多古怪音效﹐這也影響了後世的歌曲﹐比較顯著則是 Pink Floyd 的 Money (1972/Capitol)。1968年 United Artists 以Beatles 歌曲取材拍攝Yellow Submarine 動畫﹐這就成為了該電影的主題曲。它在英國成冠﹐在美國則只取得第2位。
