1964年﹐The Beatles 不單征服美國﹐而且這個熱潮又吹到來亞洲﹐他們甚至來東南亞演唱﹐其中更包括了香港﹐除此之外﹐他們在英國又拍電影﹐這一年他們就拍了“A Hard Day's Night”。終於在1964年7月10日﹐Beatles在英國老家發行了第7張單曲﹐也是同名電影的點題歌曲“A Hard Day's Night”。

A Hard Day’s Night 是根據Ringo Starr 在一則訪問裡的一番話而得來的名字﹐他說﹕We went to do a job, and we'd worked all day and we happened to work all night. I came up still thinking it was day I suppose, and I said, 'It's been a hard day...' 這時他舉頭望一望發現天色已沉﹐於是加上一個“Night!”字﹐所以當A Hard Day’s Night 的導演Walter Shenson 要為電影想一個合適的名字時﹐John 就靈機一觸﹐想到 Ringo 這番不無道理的說話﹐而導演也採用了這個名字﹐ John 也為這名字在一夜之間寫了這首歌。

這首歌跟 John 的兒子 Julian Lennon 也有點淵源﹐灌錄歌曲的當天﹐John 帶著寫給Julian 的生日卡前來﹐因為背後寫了 A Hard Day’s Night 的歌詞﹐But when I get home to you, I find my tiredness is through, and I feel alright﹐其後經過修改﹐於是就變成了現在聽到的3星期英國流行榜冠軍歌的歌詞。

美國方面﹐因為電影屬 United Artists﹐所以 OST 由 UA 出版﹐不過單曲卻由 Capitol 發行。A Hard Day’s Night 在美國比英國遲了3天出版﹐在 Billboard 也得到兩星期冠軍﹐然而 Beatles 也創造了一個紀錄﹐就是英國的 A Hard Days’ Night 單曲與專輯﹐加上美國同名的單曲與 OST﹐同時間取得冠軍位置。至於美國單曲的 B Side﹐則棄用了 Things We Said Today﹐卻改用了I Should Have Known Better。這歌打入Billboard 第53位﹐而在 OST 中也有一首由 George Martin & His Orchestra演奏的 Instrumental Version。至於這歌﹐在英國方面要在1976年發行單曲 Yesterday時﹐才成為該張單曲的 B Side。
