Beatles 於1964年短短幾個月之突然成功征服美國﹐我想不單美國樂迷猜不到﹐Beatles自己也想不到吧﹐Capitol 唱片更是陣腳大亂。

早期 Beatles 出版的歌曲﹐Capitol 身為 EMI 在美國的 Label﹐卻拒絕為他們發行歌曲﹐待一切準備就緒﹐卻沒想到這陣熱潮如巨浪般撲過來﹐連 I Want To Hold Your Hand 單曲﹐也需要找 Columbia 與 RCA 幫忙壓片﹐另外也把加拿大發行的單曲 All My Loving 和 Roll Over Beethoven急急進口應付樂迷的需求。於是在1964年3月16日發行全新單曲 Can’t Buy Me Love﹐這首歌曲因為預購訂單已超過200萬張﹐故比起 Beatles 的老家英國﹐還要早4天出版。

Can’t Buy Me Love 在巴黎寫成﹐當時 Beatles 在法國舉行為期18日的演唱會﹐而德國 EMI也堅持為了幫助當地銷量﹐要求他們灌錄 She Loves You 及 I Want To Hold You Hand 的德語版﹐在這忙碌的時期﹐他們還要為下一張單曲作準備﹐於是 Paul 就在酒店埋頭苦幹寫成這歌﹐並在巴黎先灌錄了幾個Take﹐然後回到英國才細意修飾﹐完成錄音。 它於1964年3月20日在英國出版﹐之後這曲被用作電影 A Hard Day’s Night 的插曲﹔在1965年10月26日 Beatles獲英女皇頒發MBE時﹐軍樂隊也演奏 Can’t Buy Me Love。這張單曲成為 Beatles 在英國第4張冠軍單曲﹐銷售量也超過百萬張。

Can’t Buy Me Love﹕此曲其後分別收錄於英國的“A Hard Day’s Night”(1964/Parlophone) 及美國的“A Hard Day’s Night”(1964/UA) OST中。因為Beatles 熱潮汐捲全世界﹐於是新加坡方面就有由上官流雲主唱的粵語版“行快啲啦”(1965/馬驃)﹐受歡迎程度遠及香港。

Can’t Buy Me Love 在美國於1964年3月28日稱冠﹐這是該單曲發行12日之後的事﹐當4月4 日這曲仍穩坐冠軍寶座的時候﹐包括Twist and Shout﹑She Loves You﹑I Want to Hold Your Hand 及 Please Please Me 均一起佔據了 Billboard 首5位的位置﹐而且這是史無前例﹐至今仍沒有人能破的紀錄﹐而且當時在 Billboard Top 100 之內﹐竟然有12首 Beatles 單曲停留在榜內﹐實在令人驚訝﹐而Can’t Buy Me Love 更是Billboard 5星期的冠軍歌。它的 B Side 是You Can’t Do That ﹐屬於 John Lennon 的創作﹐曾被選用作電影 A Hard Day’s Night 的插曲﹐不過後來被刪除了。You Can’t Do That 得到 Billboard第48位。
