1963年11月29日﹐Beatles 發行了他們的第5張單曲﹐因為這首 I Want To Hold Your Hand﹐使到他們的熱潮在美國彼岸成功登陸。

因為多張單曲在美國發行﹐成績都強差人意﹐經理人Brian Epstein 於是鼓勵John 和 Paul 寫一些迎合美國市場的歌曲﹐雖然他們沒有刻意為此創作﹐不過卻把這件事記在心上﹐而這首攻陷美利堅的 I Want To Hold Your Hand 就是 John 和 Paul寫於 Jane Asher 家中。當時 Jane 是 Paul 的女友﹐而他也經常留在她家中﹐故此多首歌曲如 All My Loving﹑And I Love Her﹑I'm Looking Through You﹑You Won't See Me﹑We Can Work It Out﹑Here, There And Everywhere 及 For No One 等﹐都是因為她引發 Paul 的意念而作的﹐而 I Want To Hold Your Hand 也成為了 Beatles 世界性最暢銷單曲。

I Want To Hold Your Hand 在英國登上5星期流行榜冠軍﹐而德國 Parlophone 也要求他們灌錄德語版以針對當地市場﹐於是在1964年1月29日﹐他們就在巴黎的錄音室灌錄了兩首德語版歌曲﹐除了Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand (I Want To Hold Your Hand) 作為 A Side之外﹐還有Sie liebt dich (She Loves You) 作為 B Side﹐由 EMI 另一個廠牌 Odeon 發行。但是只此一次﹐之後 Beatles 再沒有以其他語言灌錄他們的作品了。

作為 I Want To Hold Your Hand 的 B Side﹐是一首名為 This Boy的3部合音歌曲﹐ John 與 Paul寫於酒店的房間﹐本來是練習寫三部音歌曲而來的。引發他們的意念﹐乃是因為他們想寫一些類似 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles 的歌曲。This Boy 其後被 George Martin 編成純音樂版 Ringo’s Theme﹐用於電影 A Hard Day’s Night 之中﹐這音樂版收錄於“A Hard Day’s Night”(1964/UA) OST 中。

I Want To Hold Your Hand 在美國終於在1963年12月26日﹐首次出現於 EMI 的 Label 中。事緣Brian Epstein 說服了美國主持人Ed Sullivan﹐讓 Beatles 在他主持的二月份節目中亮相3次﹐由於這個宣傳機會也成功讓他游說 Capitol 首肯於1964年1 月推出 I Want To Hold Your Hand單曲﹐為求安排等更好﹐他建議 B Side 改為 I Saw Her Standing There。當一切準備就緒﹐CBS 早晨新聞也在1963年11月22日﹐播放了5分鐘 Beatles 英國熱潮的報道﹐可是當天因為美國總統John Kennedy 被刺殺﹐於是所有節目即時被抽起﹐包括該片段在CBS晚間新聞的重播﹐可是這個片段在12月10日晚間新聞重播時﹐卻引起一名15歲女歌迷Marsha Albert Thompson 的注意。她寫信給華盛頓WWDC 電台﹐要求DJ Carroll James 點播 Beatles 的歌曲﹐剛好 Carroll 的女友是英國航空的空中小姐﹐於是她就為他從英國帶來了新單曲 I Want To Hold Your Hand。Carroll 收到唱片後﹐在12月17日幾乎每小時播唱一次﹐其他DJ也緊緊跟隨﹐於是 Capitol 被迫立刻趕工﹐在12月26日提前推出﹐而這張單曲即登上 Billboard 冠軍位置﹐並且停留了7星期﹐更開始了音樂史上首次 British Invasion。

由於Brian Epstein 建議 Capitol 把 I Want To Hold Your Hand 的 B Side “This Boy”抽起﹐於是美國版的單曲﹐B Side 就換來了 I Saw Her Standing There。此曲沒有在英國以單曲推出﹐只以 EP 及 LP發行﹐然而在美國卻得到 Billboard 第14位。


I Saw Her Standing There﹕原收錄於“Please Please Me”(1963/Parlophone) 專輯中﹔因為Beatles 熱潮汐捲全世界﹐於是新加坡方面就有由上官流雲主唱的粵語版“一心想玉人”﹐受歡迎程度遠及香港﹐不過此舉較像揶喻當時的“阿飛”。80年代此曲再度改編為劉美君的“一見鍾情”(1988/Current) 仍然深受歡迎﹐不過劉美君的版本是因為 Tiffany (1988/MCA) 重唱大為流行而改編。
