The Beatles 的 Love Me Do 換來英國流行榜不錯成績﹐可是當時他們仍然忙於表演﹐故此沒放多少時間在宣傳上﹐然而 George Martin對他們還是滿有信心﹐於是在1963年1月11日推出了 The Beatles 的第2張單曲 Please Please Me。

其實在發行第2張單曲時﹐George Martin 與 Beatles 還仍然有爭拗﹐Martin 還是期望以 How Do You Do It作為單曲﹐但是 The Beatles 堅決使用自己的原創作品。而Please Please Me首次灌錄後﹐本想成為 Love Me Do 的 B Side﹐但是Martin 認為節奏太慢﹐也太像 Roy Orbison 的風格﹐後來 John Lennon 聽取 Martin 的建議﹐把歌曲修改﹐加快了節奏﹐於是在灌錄了18個 Take 之後﹐Martin 終於首肯把它成為第二張單曲﹐而 Beatles 也完成了 Liverpool 與 Hamburg 的表演﹐得以上電視台打歌﹐這無疑對銷量幫助很大﹐於是這張單曲登上英國流行榜亞軍位置。

作為 EMI 在美國 Label的Capitol本應為 Beatles 發行唱片﹐可是他們拒絕了﹐於是他們又去叩 Atlantic 的大門﹐還是被拒﹐後來得到一個以出版 R&B 為主的唱片公司Vee-Jay 答應發行﹐然而 Please Please Me 在美國並沒有得到多少迴響﹐他們更把 The Beatles 錯印為The Beattles。不過當1964年重發時﹐因為 Beatles 已在美國得到7星期 Billboard 冠軍歌 I Wanna Hold Your Hand﹐並且造成熱潮﹐於是Vee-Jay把 B Side 的 Ask Me Why換成曾是美國 A Side 單曲的 From Me To You﹐瞬即得到Billboard第3位。Please Please Me 與 Ask Me Why 都同時收錄於“Please Please Me”(1963/Parlophone) 專輯中。
