小時候聽 Musical 的音樂﹐最多是 The Sound Of Music 吧﹐還有好幾部重要的作品都被搬上大銀幕﹐也是我很愛聽的﹐沒想到原來 Musical 作品多的是。

隨著多年的音樂聆聽經驗﹐藉不同的機會﹐從唱片CD去欣賞到其他音樂劇作品﹐這種經驗也帶來不少樂趣。其實有頗多作品﹐其後都被改編為Jazz 的 Standard﹐所以一點都不難接受﹐而且因為這些作品不少都是以 Orchestra 伴奏﹐聽起來非常懷舊典雅﹐仿彿隨著CD轉出來的音樂﹐帶到幾十年前迷人的晚上。

英國 Stage Door 唱片近年就再版了不少跟 Musical有關的專輯﹐而且還加入 Bonus Track﹐非常珍貴。以下便有一張名為 Wish you Were Here。

Wish You Were Here 首演於1952年﹐在紐約演了598場﹐故事來自 Arthur Kober 及 Joshua Logan 的著作﹐曲與詞則由 Harold Rome 操刀﹐這也是他的首部劇作﹐而這也是 Joshua 自 South Pacific 之後的另一佳作。Wish You Were Here 是根據1937年劇作 Having Wonderful Time 而寫成﹐要把故事改編為 Musical﹐乃是 Harold Rome 的提議﹐而Arthur Kober也贊成﹐故此遷就音樂劇的格式而把故事改寫﹐其後又徵詢Joshua Logan的意見﹐他也提供了部份改寫﹐於是最後促成了這一次的合作。

這部劇作聽說最令人難望是因為舞台上有一個真實的游泳池﹐單是建造這個泳池就佔去不少的製作費﹐同年這部劇在英國倫敦上演﹐又演了282場。當年Original Broadway Cast Album由 RCA Victor 出版﹐不過當唱片發行後﹐舞台上的Goodbye Love則被新歌 Nothing Nicer Than People 取代了﹐同年期還有 Eddie Fisher 的流行榜冠軍 Pop Version。這次由 Stage Door 重版的CD﹐以上歌曲全數收錄﹐而且還有兩首1956年由Harold Rome 親自解說及主唱的插曲﹐使到這張CD收錄的歌曲更為完整。
