Dear Chris,

Dear Soundboy,

I saw this movie recently on TV here in the US as part of a John Wayne "movie marathon". These movies were a product of their time and I don't think judging them with today's standard will be fair. John Wayne is still well-remembered in the US....you can fly into John Wayne International Airport here in California and Jackie Chan has a name just like "John Wayne" in his "Shanghai ______" movies.

Robert Mitchum is a movie tough guy. In real life, he went to jail for illegal drugs during his early career. Robert Mitchum is more famous for his "film noir" detective characters. In many ways, he's like Charles Bronson, but from an earlier time.

As for the age of the actors, there's a big cultural difference between HK and the US. In the US, if you're not old enough, people will not take you seriously. Tom Cruise was forever labelled as "too young". Only now when Tom Cruise is in his 40s will he be considered for more serious dramas.
