筆者購買Adventure Of Priscilla, Queen Of Desert的 OST CD﹐應該是看完電影之後的事情﹐不過是否如此﹐已記不起來了﹐反正那時候是我瘋狂購買美國版CD的時期﹐相信單看曲目已夠吸引的了。

90年代是我發現美國版CD的時代﹐除了因為音色好之外﹐也因為多了一個途徑﹐尋找失落多時的歌曲﹐無需等待本土唱片公司記起來﹐才會收錄﹐然後我才有機會購買﹐於是購買雜錦精選合輯﹐也會是我搜羅 One Hit Wonder的一個方法。而Adventure Of Priscilla, Queen Of Desert的 OST對我來說﹐也有這吸引之處。

雖然這部電影最重要的插曲﹐乃是 ABBA的 Mamma Mia ﹐但是我一點都不在乎﹐這首歌曲早在 ABBA Gold時已收錄﹐當時見到好幾首70年代重要的 Disco經典﹐而且還有 Original 12”Remix ﹐單是這樣已足夠令的舉手投降了。另外有一首絕版多年的 I’ve Never Been To Me﹐倒是寶麗金在 Polystar 9 (1982/Polystar) 中力 Plug上台的﹐Charlene身為白人﹐竟在 Motown旗下灌錄這首歌曲﹐實屬異數﹐而她也不知不覺間成為 One Hit Wonder。Charlene早在1976年已灌錄此曲﹐但是紅不起來﹐只得到美國 Billboard第97位﹐直到1982年此曲被一名 Florida的DJ 點播﹐即火速紅起來﹐已為人婦的 Charlene被 Motown力邀再度歸巢﹐灌錄了第2個版本﹐收錄於“I've Never Been To Me”(1982/Motown) 專輯中﹐並且得到美國Billboard第3位及英國流行榜冠軍﹐不過筆者最早認識此曲乃是 Mary MacGregor的版本﹐收錄於“In Your Eyes”(1978/Ariola) 專輯中。許多人以為I've Never Been To Me 是一首情歌﹐誰不知內容卻是很嚴肅的反墮胎議題。香港方面有周慧敏的粵語版“孤單的心痛”﹐ 收錄於“冬日浪漫”(1992/Polydor) 專輯中。

至於 Paper Lace的Billy Don't Be A Hero ﹐其實筆者並不熟識﹐不過此調子很耳熟﹐或者那個年代在電台節目經常聽到吧。原收錄於“Paper Lace”(1974/Mercury) 專輯中﹐在英國取得流行榜3星期冠軍﹐可是因為該曲發行於越戰時期﹐許多人以為此曲會紅﹐不料只得到 Billboard第96位而已﹐而 Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods的翻唱版本 (1974/ABC) 卻得到美國 Billboard兩星期冠軍寶座。

至於 Alicia Bridges的I Love The Nightlife﹐筆者也不熟識﹐不過對於副歌那句假聲“On The Disco 'round” 卻相當耳熟﹐或許是那個年代在電台節目聽到﹐也許是從姐姐一堆卡帶中聽過吧。此曲於1978年在美國 Billboard登上第5位﹐而英國方面則得到第32位。

I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine 作曲者 Mack David 就是60年代 Burt Bacharach 搭擋 Hal David 的哥哥。據說這首歌由 Mack David 自薦給 Patti Page﹐於是灌錄成單曲 (1950/Mercury)﹐得到英國流行榜第9位。後來 Elvis Presley在 Sun Record時期曾翻唱﹐成為單曲Good Rockin' Tonight (1954/Sun) 的 B Side ﹐得到美國港行榜第74位。不過單是1950年便有多個版本出版﹐分別是 Dean Martin (1950/Capitol) 及 Georgia Gibbs (1950/Mercury)。Patti Page版本的 Intro很 Jazz﹐也很 Carbaet﹐但是歌曲卻很 Rock N Roll﹐跟 OST中其他歌曲一起﹐絕不突兀﹐倒覺又 In又潮。

Save The Best For Last 自出版後﹐便經常出現於香港寶麗金的雜錦精選中﹐故此能得到美國版﹐實屬意料之外。Vanessa Williams 是1984年美國小姐﹐也會首位非洲裔當選﹐後來因為醜聞而掛冠﹐其後轉任歌星及演員。
