提到電影 Saturday Night Fever﹐一定會想起 Bee Gees脫胎換骨的 Disco歌曲﹐另一方面與他們有關連的﹐必定要說到他們的胞弟 Andy Gibb吧。

Andy Gibb (1958-1988) ﹐生於英國 Manchester﹐出生不久即舉行移民澳洲居住﹐來自一個音樂世家﹐父親 Hugh是樂團領班﹐而母親Barbara是歌手﹐其三位兄長 Barry ﹑Robin及 Maurice便是舉世知名的Bee Gees樂團。

Andy少年時期已四處唱歌表演﹐1975年在澳洲出版了一張個人創作單曲“Words And Music”(1975/ATA)﹐ 旋即於翌年登上澳洲流行榜第5位。此舉即引來 Bee Gees的經理人 Robert Stigwood青睞﹐相邀加盟其 RSO唱片﹐並在 Florida灌錄其首張個人專輯Flowing Rivers (1977/RSO)。Andy 首兩張單曲即獲得美國 Billboard 冠軍﹐I Just Want To Be Your Everything 及 (Love Is) Thicker Than Water 分別停留在冠軍達4星期及2星期﹐想不到翌年從 Shadow Dancing (1978/RSO) 專輯中抽取的同名單曲更加成功﹐獲得美國 Billboard 冠軍達7星期。連續3張冠軍單曲﹐使他聲勢一時無兩﹐氣勢如虹﹐這一年也他跟剛離婚的太太生的女兒 Peta 出生。

之後 Andy 的聲勢稍為回落﹐An Everlasting Love﹑(Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Way 及 Desire 仍然是 Billboard 流行榜10大歌曲﹐不過自此之後他的成績便每況愈下﹐1981-1982年間作事業的轉營﹐主持電視音樂節目 Solid Gold及開始演員的工作﹐可是卻不如灌錄唱片般成功﹐事業開始下滑。加上其大部份歌曲均由哥哥們創作﹑製作及合音﹐帶著濃濃的 Bee Gees 影子﹐也仿如是 Bee Gees的歌曲﹐這令他極為苦惱﹐故此開始抽食 Cocaine。這時 Andy與電視劇 Dallas 女角Victoria Principal打得火熱﹐而且兩人更合唱了單曲 All I Have To Do Is Dream ﹐可是沒多久﹐他因吸毒問題影響到他的演藝事業及愛情。除了無法正常灌唱及演出外﹐也喪失了 Andrew Lloyd Webber音樂劇Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat的角色。

80年代中期﹐Andy的家人力圖勸他戒毒﹐他也努力振作四處演唱﹐可是1987年他還是要宣佈破產。之後他回到哥哥們的身邊﹐Barry及 Maurice為他灌錄了一些 Demo給英國的 Island唱片﹐然而因無法面對壓力而經常醉酒﹐終於在1988年3月10日因心臟衰竭而死亡﹐死時才30歲。

認識 Andy Gibb的歌曲來自 Shadow Dancing一曲﹐當年此曲收錄於香港的“雄霸樂壇寶麗金 Gold Disc ’77-‘79”(1979/Polydor) 雜錦合輯中﹐其後也從別的途徑認識到其他的歌曲。當時很喜歡他與Victoria Principal 合唱的 All I Have To Do Is Dream﹐感覺是一首愛得很纏綿的情歌。後來相隔多年﹐因為想重溫他的歌曲﹐才在90年代買來他的精選 CD “Andy Gibb”(1991/Polydor) 。雖然他在70年代末超紅﹐原來只出版過3張專輯及一張新曲+精選而已﹐故此這精選CD可說已把他的金曲一網打盡了﹐可惜 All I Have To Do Is Dream因為Victoria Principal的關係吧﹐從未收入在 Andy的唱片或有再版的機會﹐不過此精選收錄了為 Island Records灌錄而從未出版的歌曲Man On Fire。
