在電影 Saturday Night Fever中眾多的歌曲﹐有一首是筆者十分深刻的﹐因為當時單聽她的聲音﹐倒有點分不清是男還是女﹐十分中性﹐她是 Yvonne Elliman ﹐然而比它早的﹐還有另一首單曲Love Me﹐相比之下﹐這曲就較女人味了。

Yvonne Elliman (1951- )﹐原名Yvonne Marianne Elliman﹐於 Hawaii的 Honolulu出生﹐父親有著愛爾蘭血統﹐而母親則是中日混血兒。1970年高中畢業後﹐便到英國開始其音樂事業於夜店表演。其後得到機會為 Eric Clapton充當合音﹐於是 I Shot The Sheriff ﹑Knockin' On Heaven's Door 及Wonderful Tonight都會聽到她的聲音。Yvonne不單會唱﹐也是一名演員﹐在 Andrew Lloyd Webber的音樂劇及電影 Jesus Christ Superstar中﹐她便擔演了Mary Magdolene一角﹐演唱 I Don’t Know How To Love Him﹐此角為她得到1974年 Golden Globe中Musical/Comedy的最佳女主角提名。

1975年Yvonne從 MCA轉投 RSO旗下﹐可是個人事業得到起色還要到 1976年﹐她翻唱Bee Gees的 Love Me (1976/RSO) 得到 Billboard流行榜第14名。之後又翻唱了Barbra Lewis 的Hello Stranger (1963/Atlantic) 也得到第15位。1977年電影 Saturday Night Fever只是一部爛片﹐可是紅了男主角 John Travolta﹐也紅了當中的主題曲插曲﹐Yvonne Elliman便得到其中一曲 If I Can’t Have You ﹐並且首嚐 Billboard冠軍滋味﹐更成為首位亞洲/太平洋女生得到這成績。翌年同是由 John Travolta主演的電影 Moment By Moment ﹐香港藉油脂熱潮﹐把它改名為“油脂戀”﹐可是它跟電影 Grease沒有一點關係﹐不過當中非常動聽的同名主題曲便是由她主唱。它雖然沒有登上英美流行榜高位﹐可是在香港卻曾經常被收錄於雜錦精選之中﹐頗為流行。1979年﹐Yvonne灌錄了 Love Pains﹐也成為她最後一張 Billboard Top 40的單曲﹐之後她便專心相夫教子﹐直到近年才復出演唱﹐灌錄唱片。

雖然Yvonne Elliman擁有的熱門歌曲不多﹐然而要從 Decca及 RSO都得到錄音版權﹐發行一張個人精選﹐並不容易。現在兩間公司都同歸環球集團﹐可是在90年代要有一張這麼完全的 Yvonne精選﹐還需要在美國尋找﹐畢竟人家市場大﹐可容納更多管你紅不紅﹑Outdate不 Outdate的歌星。1995年由 Taragon發行的The Very Best Of Yvonne﹐雖然收錄的歌曲只有10首﹐然而歌曲齊全﹐於是便成為我的一張愛不釋手精選唱片。

I Don’t Know How To Love Him﹕原是音樂劇“Jesus Christ Superstar” 的插曲﹐除了收錄於舞台劇版本 (1970/Decca) 錄音外﹐也收錄於同名 (1974/MCA) 原聲帶中﹐並且得到 Billboard 第28位及英國流行榜第47位。之後由加拿大女歌手 Helen Reddy (1971/Capitol) 翻唱﹐得到美國 Billboard 第11位﹐令到歌曲更風行。
