有關 Disco歌曲﹐除了 Disco Queen的 Donna Summer外﹐相信大家一定會想起1977年的電影“週末狂熱 Saturday Night Fever”。

電影上映時﹐我沒有機會看﹐倒是那電影原聲帶的歌曲卻經常在家播放﹐事隔數年電影在電視播映﹐傻傻的筆者隆而重之﹐目不轉睛地看著電影機﹐看完後才發現只是爛片一套。事實上很難想像因為歌曲好聽﹐男主角 John Travolta夠入型入格﹐便成為了賣座電影﹐不過當時 John的指定動作似乎也成為了 Disco音樂的模範舞姿。但話得說回來﹐Saturday Night Fever確實成為 Disco Music熱潮推波作瀾的功臣。

Saturday Night Fever 成為史上最暢銷的雙唱片電影原聲帶﹐在美國銷售達 15白金﹐即1500萬張﹐而世界性銷量更達到2500萬張﹐實在令人咋舌。這張原聲帶猶如半套 Bee Gees 精選﹐這個三兄弟組合在60年帶有來一大堆 British Pop單曲﹐然而隨著時代過去﹐踏入70年代﹐幾張專輯都換來徹底失敗。直到1975年三人把音樂風格來個大轉變﹐加入 Disco音樂原素﹐憑 Jive Talking 再度榮登英國流行榜10大﹐並且在美國 Billboard 取得兩星期冠軍。1976的 Children Of The World 專輯以單曲 You Should Be Dancing 及 Love So Right緊接其氣勢﹐同樣成功﹐並且得到250期張銷量的甜頭。

正當他們準備新專輯﹐也寫下5首歌曲之際﹐RSO的老板 Robert Stigwood向他們為低成本電影 Tribal Rites on a Saturday Night的原聲帶邀歌﹐可是導演John Avildsen拒絕接受﹐終於 Robert把他炒了﹐除了由John Badham執導之外﹐也把電影改名為 Saturday Night Fever﹐於是5首 Bee Gees的新曲﹐也以各種面貌面世於電影原聲帶中。

5首歌曲包括了Stayin’ Alive﹑How Deep Is Your Love﹑Night Fever﹑More Than A Woman及 If I Can’t Have You。首先 How Deep Is Your Love本來寫給Yvonne Elliman的﹐最後改由 Bee Gees主唱﹐而 Bee Gees灌錄的 If I Can’t Have You﹐乃是單曲Stayin’ Alive的 B Side歌曲﹐電影中卻改由Yvonne Elliman 所唱。另外 More Than A Woman 則一分為二﹐由 Bee Gees 及 Travares 分別灌錄各自的版本﹐另外Bee Gees又加入了他們的舊作 Jive Talkin’ 及 You Should Be Dancing﹐可是前者並沒有出現於電影中。

雖然 Bee Gees 的歌曲在專輯中最為搶耳﹐但是其他歌曲也不乏佳作﹐Waler Murphy 的 Disco 版 A Fifth Of Beethoven 便是改編自貝多芬的古典音樂﹐入型入格﹐更是美國 Billboard的冠軍單曲。另外還有同是改編自 Classics﹑由 David Shire 演奏的 Night On Disco Mountain﹐也是耳熟能詳的旋律。這首古典音樂經常被50/60年代的粵語電影用作罐頭配樂﹐劇情大多是主角與壞人在結局部份於山頭上打個你死我活﹐在拼命之際﹐探長李鵬飛或曹達華便會在緊急關頭趕至﹐舉起手鎗叫歹徒停手﹐氣氛絕對緊張﹐然而這裡經過Disco化之後﹐換來是較現代化的感覺﹐至於在電影Saturday Night Feverl中﹐是甚麼場面出現﹐我倒是忘了。另外 David Shire 也貢獻了Manhattan Skyline 及 Salsation﹐後者跟 MFSB 的 K-Jee 對筆者來說都印象深刻﹐因為它成為1978年TVB 青春劇集“青春熱潮”的配樂。原聲帶中還有 KC & The Sunshine Band 的 Boogie Shoes 及 Kool & The Gang 的 Open Sesame﹐兩者都是70/80年代的經典樂團。其實電影中還出現了 Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idoits 的 Disco Duck﹐可是卻沒有收錄在原聲帶中。還有一首 Disco 經典﹐便是 Philadelphia 樂團 The Tramps 的 Disco Inferno﹐2007年 Madonna便在 Confessions Tour中﹐Sampling 了它加入其創作 Music之中﹐作為向 Disco致敬。

筆者首次擁有 Saturday Night Fever 的原聲帶已是90代的事了﹐本由 RSO 出版的唱片﹐後來已由 Polydor 廠牌發行CD了﹐可是它卻是我首套最感失望的美國版CD﹐音色很差﹐後來雖然數度重版﹐筆者卻沒有再買的打算。
