Donna Summer 於1991年在 Atlantic 發行了 Mistaken Identity 專輯後﹐筆者已鮮有她的新消息﹐其實因為喜歡看音樂資料及逛CD店﹐故此她在Geffen 及 Atlantic 的專輯﹐大多僅於CD店中看到﹐聽得著實不多﹐也限於在 Donna Summer Anthology (1993/Casablanca) 精選欣賞到。

1995年英國暢銷Now 雜錦系列第32輯收錄了 Donna Summer 的 I Feel Love﹐原來 Donna Summer 於同年再度灌錄這首電子跳舞經典﹐並且攀到英國流行榜第8位﹐故此 Now 32 收錄了一個 Casablanca 的 Remix Edit﹐這個時候倒又讓筆者再度重溫那 Bad Girls 及 On The Radio 專輯好一陣子。

相隔幾年後﹐沒想到 Donna Summer 又有新專輯﹐那是 Sony 跟她簽下一碟合約﹐配合著 1999年6月20日為VH1 電視節目錄影的演唱會而推出的新曲及演唱會精選專輯Donna Summer Live & More Encore (1999/Epic)。該專輯收錄了現場演唱的11首舊歌及加上兩首在錄音室灌錄的新作而成。

同期 Epic也為該場演唱會以DVD發行﹐收錄的歌曲比CD的曲目詳盡﹐全長約75分鐘﹐除了她過去的大熱金曲外﹐還加上一些非熱門作品或近作﹐還有詳盡的 Biography﹑Discography﹑詳細的流行榜成績單﹐及 Donna 在演唱會中的歌曲簡介﹐感覺就全面得多﹐而且也能藉此更瞭解她的近況。

一直以來樂迷都集中注意她的 Disco歌曲﹐忽略了她其他類型歌曲﹐甚至她的寫歌才華﹐於是她就明智地在演唱會中先來4首大熱單曲熱身﹐然後再把氣氛略為調整﹐帶領現場進入她較冷門歌曲的大門﹐這一個 Session﹐她談及家庭﹑音樂事業及宗教信仰﹐頗為感性﹐然而為了避免過份把現場氣氛冷卻﹐於是在中段與澳洲歌手 Tina Arena 合唱了當年與 Barbra Streisand 合唱的冠軍單曲 No More Tears﹐帶來中場的高潮。之後又藉著一些冷門歌曲談及她的心境﹐然後便以 Dim All The Lights 開始﹐把觀眾帶返20年前的 Disco 經典。雖然這些歌曲已減少了 Disco 的味道﹐因為 Donna 明智地把歌曲加入新原素﹐歌曲除了舞曲味道外﹐也加入 Rock Music 成份。經過 She Works Hard For The Money﹑Bad Girls﹑Hot Stuff 的火熱節奏後﹐她演唱了近作音樂劇 Ordinary Girl 中的 My Life﹐然後便又以 Last Dance 推至高潮後完滿結束。

這張DVD初發行時﹐筆者感到非常驚喜﹐可是因為市面上的都是加拿大版﹐故此猶豫了好一陣子才買﹐首次看是在朋友家的聚會中﹐那次筆者因病失了聲﹐但是看著這些經典﹐還是忍不住低聲跟著 Donna Summer 哼著﹐沒想到許多歌詞還存留在腦海中呢。事實上除了選曲精選﹐編排很有心思外﹐許多經典歌曲雖然在演繹上有點鬆散﹐但是勝在都是 Single Edit 版本﹐於是聽起來除了夠 Solid Gold 外﹐也屬簡而精。另一方面﹐筆者覺得事隔多年﹐影音技術都隨著時代進步﹐這類金曲新唱的演唱會錄影﹐實在是非常好看的。

I Will Go With You (Con Te Partiro)﹕原為 Andrea Bocelii的 Con Te Partiro﹐收錄於“Romanza”(1996/Philips) 專輯中﹐其後由Sarah Brightman跟 Andrea合唱﹐把它發揚光大。至於 Donna Summer則為該曲填上英語詞﹐以舞曲演繹﹐可惜成績平平﹐在美國 Billboard僅得85位﹐而英國流行榜則得到第44位。
