認識 Ottawan的歌曲大約是1982年﹐由於友人取了D.I.S.C.O. 這曲作為她們啦啦隊的伴奏曲﹐感覺很新穎﹐不過那是從日劇“校園啦啦隊”取經的﹐配合時尚的音樂﹐加上整齊的制服﹐那一次她們就輕易贏了大會的冠軍。

後來因為喜歡 D.I.S.C.O. 容易入耳﹐於是自己就向她們詢問﹐究竟這曲已取自那一張唱片﹐原來那是 HK Records (HK BMG的前身) 出版的一張雜錦合輯。至於那張唱片叫甚麼名字﹐我已忘記得一乾二淨﹐只記得那張唱片選曲不太好﹐D.I.S.C.O. 是當中最搶耳的歌曲。

其後唱片公司推出另一張雜錦唱片﹐又收錄了 Ottawan的 Hands Up ﹐感覺他們的歌曲跟 Boney M很相似﹐曲式都是大同小異﹐而且歌詞都是簡單易記。

Ottawan由四人組成﹐初時名為Black Underground﹐分別由Jean Patrick及Annette為主音﹐而Daniel Vangarde及 Jean Kluger則擔任樂團的創作人﹐簽約法國的 Carrere唱片﹐樂團維持了三年。筆者繼認識他們的 D.I.S.C.O. 及 Hands Up之後﹐另一首歌曲也屬雜錦精選收錄的歌曲﹐名為 You’re O.K. 。

其實此曲跟前作分別不大﹐都是輕輕鬆鬆的歌曲﹐歌詞容易上口﹐聽得快快樂樂。相隔多年後﹐因為懷念他們這幾首歌曲﹐於是不經意間買了這張 Ottawan精選﹐原來 HK Records當年曾代理過他們的精選唱片進口香港﹐只是我沒留意而已。

重新對 Ottawan留意﹐其實因為1997年市場上出版了許多 Cover Version﹐這些歌曲大多是 Sampling了原唱版本﹐然後加上 Rap及 Update的節奏﹐當時產量較豐的便有 N-Trance﹐他們把D.I.S.C.O. 翻唱並作單曲發行﹐而且得到英國流行榜第11位。聽了新版本﹐又懷念起原裝版本起來了。
